oh god this thread has turned into a nerdfest of numbers and jumbled letters. I have no clue what any of you are on about. Please use the thread about the sys requirements to talk about this nonsense
your already a nerd if your playin FFXI and Wow.. haven't u heard?
I wish I understood this "nonsense" so I could build my own super-amazing computer XD
I'm not a nerd i'm a cyber punk
If only they made 14 in x64 all those big ram quantaties would be useful...
I recommend getting into it. It's kinda fun (occasionally frustrating) and definitely worth doing. Not only is it a cost effective hobby, you get a deeper understanding of the object you're probably spending your day on. You learn to appreciate what is what and when those crazy numbers being thrown at you do or don't mean something. Or once you get especially daring, you start overclocking your own stuff and REALLY getting your $$$ worth. Sometimes on a scale of 50-90% savings over the "faster" one.
I mean it always sounds cool when you see that 1.21 Gigawatt 1800 Mumbojumbo 20XX computer in an ad, until u realize that while the "20XX" part is truly awesome, that 1800 mumbojumbos isn't even one tenth what you'd need to make the "20XX" even work to capacity.
I have like 256 MB ram I think I'm screwed.
People of the world, please remain ignorant of electronic hardware!
It's how I make money
lolDDR PC3200
But I can't bot on a PS3 wryyyyyyyyyyyyy
True... bots, things like windower... yeah I would miss that stuff, but we dont even know what people are going to tweak and make for ffxiv.
I think if you have the money... PC ONRY! If you dont have the cash flow get a PS3, and lie that your on a PC.
EDIT: I dont care about bots, I am just referring to windower and that awesomeness.
If SE is intelligent in the least FFXIV will be designed to reduce the usefulness of bots and come with its own windower already (honestly if you can't alt-tab out of FFXIV without another program I'm not going to be getting the game lol).
Surely the minimum requirements stated take into account that you're going to have Windows running, because that is a requirement to run the game. It's no good listing a minimum spec of 2GB RAM if you actually need 3GB due to Windows.
Edit: Actually they do:
Windows XP: 1.5GB
Windows Vista / Windows 7: 2GB
And when you think how much RAM a PS3 has, you can't expect the game to need gigabytes on its own.
I wasn't talking about the game in that quote, I was amazed he can even run Windows 7. Notice he said he installed Windows 7 on his 1GB RAM DDR1 computer. Windows 7 32 bit needs about 1GB of RAM and thats likely quoted expecting DDR3 speeds to boot. His computer, running nothing but the OS should be already running on empty and pretty damn slow.
But since we're also mentioning the game, yeah, ur quote is exactly right, 1GB for the OS and 1GB for the game total. On an x64 box expect more like 2GB OS and 1GB Game.
how do i check if its DDR1 or DDR2?
EDIT: I guess its 1, and people have installed 7 on less than 1GB... It has something (the name escapes me) the minimizes the resources it eats up.
