Everyone is jizzing all over their keyboards with their unfounded opinions/speculations. No one knows anything, and as you can see SE hasn't even stuck to their word.. and thats about as assured as it gets.

They have stuck to their word.. If people intrepret what se says wrong, thats their own fault.

lol at ppl not thinking they will make a 2010 release. Even if alpha starts in april and beta in may/june. Thats still 6-7 months of testing that is more then they will need

they were already ahead of the schedule iirc, at least i recall tanaka saying so in a recent interview.. So even with problems like this, theyre still only back in the original schedule at worst.

my sources told me the game was hopeful for a summer 2010 release but a winter 2010 release was much more likley.

if the alpha starts next month, and the beta starts at the start/middle of summer, there is a chance of winter release, otherwise look for Q1 2011

I wonder if they'll wait for Cataclysm to roll out? I know they may not "intentionally" but it might be better for their product to. I don't know. Just speculation, of course.

I started to doubt the 2010 release target a month ago. I remember they originally said they wanted to start the beta around the beginning of 2010 and aim for a summer release. Right now they're only talking about the alpha.

We can expect around 6 months of beta and another month to get the release version to retail stores. If the beta starts in the next few weeks they'll still be on target for 2010 with a release around November.

They are pushing it close. If anything unexpected happens, even the slightest delay could push it into 2011. I'm not fussed, I rather the game get delayed and released without big flaws/balance issues than rush.

If they were considering separate releases for regions wouldn't they doing the same with the Alpha? Having a Japanese alpha months in advance followed by NA then EU?

Cataclysm is slated for a 2010 release (though with Blizzard that could easily mean January 2011 or later.) There is no way to avoid it other than releasing FFXIV earlier. If you push it to next year you're going to get walloped with both Cataclysm and Old Republic. The fickleness of MMO players combined with the huge time investment necessary for MMOs --> things don't always come to the equilibrium you expect. It's risky business to push it off to 2011 if it's even close to ready sooner than that. I think they should push for release as soon as they have a shelf-worthy product, even if the game is rough around the edges.

In conclusion, we all know it will be a worldwide release. We DON'T yet know how S-E will unbalance the game to gives JPs an advantage.

The devs. have stated several times that the servers will go live all at once, not like in 11 where JPs had a headstart

I'm sure they realize how important the release date is. I myself am hoping for a Dec date as the latest. Since i have no interest in Cataclysm, i'd rather they compete with that than TOR.

Having a 4 month head start on the rumored $150mil EA/Bioware mega giant will hopefully give it a solid chance to succeed.
