Also Blackwings father. And to add a bit more...

Deathwing origins long before WC3. As one of the aspects of the Warcraft world, he's been around since ancient times. Aspects are the ones chosen by the Pantheon, the Gods who literally created Azeroth, and left them to run the world in their image. However, we all know wars come along eventually, Sargeras, and it didn't help that Deathwing was turned batshit crazy by him. Oh, and the old gods who were sealed away by the Pantheon.

The WoW lore is very rich, with a huge cast of characters and how they relate to each other, which took Blizzard decades to do. And like Ksandra said, it's not exactly right to compare the two IPs.

I really hope SE does more with XIV then just the game. Hire some authors and artists and get some books and comics going. We all know SE can, they're a huge publishing giant in Japan now.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Ahh thanks for the clarification. As I said I didn't play the warcraft games I just date someone who did so he usually tells me all the stuff but he's at work atm XD

He was pretty fucking excited when he saw Deathwing at Blizzcon (so was everyone though lol), so I think most of the hardcores have a good concept of the lore.

Yeah, Deathwing is one of the more memorable villains in Warcraft. He was always the more...edgy of all the aspects (a total of 5 dragons. Alexstrasza, Nozdormu, Malygos, Ysera and Nelthaion, Deathwings original name). Much like Arthas, he was a good being who loved his race before being mind twisted by a higher level evil being.

He's the bad ass of the bad ass. How bad ass? He made goblins his slave and made them fuse a rare, nearly indestructible metal (both physically and magically) to his body. Ripped off his own scales and replaced it all with that. And of course declaring all other beings his enemies and vowing to eradicate all in Azeroth until his race rules supreme.

WoW already finished off Illidan. Now we've finished off Arthas, the Lich King. Now they've about to finish off Deathwing. The only real threats left are the remaining old gods and the big bad boy Sargeras himself. The only other one I can think of is the nightmare that's currently destroying the Emerald Dream. But I have a feeling they'll add that in through a patch.

Worgen's i knew about, but Deathwing i know fuck all about other than who he is as a dragon aspect. I never read any of the comics, or novels or whatever other source Warcraft lore comes from, and thats mainly because i really don't care.

And thats ok with Blizzard, the lore is there if people care to know about, if not nobody is gonna miss it. We all know 90% of the WoW player base is too simple minded to appreciate a good story in the first place, so it would be understandable that Bliz wouldn't bother coming up with anything incredibly powerful. Its just gonna be the usual "HAY THERES A BAD GUY. GO GET ME 12 LOGS AND 8 SKULLS AND YOU CAN HELP".

Hell, expand the concept of pankration, go full pokeripoff. 3 hour camp got you down? Your tank needs 10 more minutes to finish dinner? Bring your pets and have them fight your friends' pets!

to be honest all of those events will eventually die out unless there is some incentive to do them. Reason why 90% of all those side events SE added are dead right now is because people stopped doing it because of no rewards

Nothing game breaking that 'forces' people into doing it, but more like a decent incentive so that you don't feel like by doing that particular event you are completely losing some time that you coulda spent camping x nm or doing x bcnm or whatever.

    Very wishful and all.
This kind of hits a point where Campaign has with Union loot, though. Initially some of the new drops were expensive, in part due to people going for Pixie weapons, but eventually most loot prices dropped to near worthless (Were 100s ever confirmed or just people BSing?). Anyway, X event comes, people rush it, Y loot eventually plummets to garbage and suddenly it's not "worth" doing despite the conceptual intent of the event being a reward of its own. Warm and fuzzy feelings don't get you gear or gil, though, and I've yet to see a parser measure entertainment value, too.

So, it comes back to people trying to justify whatever event should have unique loot that people want, majority opinion be damned if it's in opposition. If a PvP system winds up netting you loot that enhances your PvP (like Aion), then we return to the risk of disenfranchising newbies to the system when people with said gear hand 'em their asses with a side of trash talk. What's SE to do, then? Add "welfare" gear that's maybe synthed outside of the event with minimal PvP boosts? Okay, but it's still lesser, might not be worth precious inventory space, and crafters might feel shafted about not getting something better to make.

    End result: Can't please everyone.
Ideal result: Try not to displease as many as possible, which might mean ignoring minority requests from time to time.

I'll trade the boredom that is Campaign for some sort of PVP with rewards any day. I'm completely addicted to in now after playing Aion, which wasn't even that good. Even though i prefer open world PVP, it would never work in XIV. So i'd settle for some form of organized PVP. Anything is better than the side nonsense they gave us in XI.

Campaign could be a lot better if SE was more active about taking some of the suck out of it, but that might just be a result of dev attention being so fractured with a skeleton crew and focus on XIV. The total lack of incentive for doing offensive campaigns with the fort nerf is one of the biggest glaring flaws, but on a more simplistic level of observation, the predictability of the event works against it.

I can understand the appeal of PvP as a random encounter, and if Campaign were set up more properly, it could've been a higher level of pseudo-random with objectives far beyond simply killing enemy units. Hell, this is somewhat evidenced through the various Ops, but they're more independent of the Campaign system outside of a select few and the tag restriction (I hate this here and with Assault) basically limits that level of interaction.

I know when I first started learning about Aion and the Abyss forts, I was hoping they'd be like a perpetual capture the flag of sorts between the three factions. Relative to how the system currently functions, that'd mean vulnerability 24/7 with enemy attacks possible at any given moment depending on how organized the players wished to be. Instead, it kinda got the Campaign treatment with battle frequency being dictated more by the server than the players and, in turn, getting what they wanted when they wanted to try wasn't always an option. Though, that's only one aspect of NC's failure with the Abyss Point system. I guess XI had kinda similar with Conquest and the weekly tally, but I'd hope any similar systems present in XIV are more fluid and not subject to JP Midnight-isms, be it daily, weekly, or monthly.

WoW's backstory reads like a campaign setting as written by 13 year old. Actually, I think I made a better campaign setting when I was 13. It also has poor execution, with the world lacking any real mystery. Perhaps this is at fault with it being a long running series.

Little over 25 hours until people are killing Gridanian rabbits.

Or, at least, until the server crashes with everyone trying to download the client.

Or, possibly, until people manage to get the client but are told they can't log in until May 3rd between the hours of 3am and 4am.

Did SE discuss how incorporated quests are throughout the leveling process? Back in XI I didn't do any questing at all >_> . Maybe a couple to get a map, then one or two a million times to raise rep, but that was it. I'm hoping for some good exp rewards and/or equipment.

Seeing what focus was put on the Guildleve I'd guess they are making it a lot more important this time. I'm actually scared that at first there won't be much to do beside the Guildleves X.x

I'd really like SE to keep expanding the system for XIV though. Y'know, since XI's engine wasn't really created with such a system in mind in the first place, I bet they didn't quite achieve their visions as to what it might have been like at best.

That's why I think whatever "campaign" there is in XIV it'd be a hell lot better. Even if it's Besieged v2 in one zone I have no doubts that if the server and game engine supports it, it'll be dozen times better than 'Sieged.

I also found it to be a quite creative way to implement solo content to a grouping game. I wouldn't mind to see that a system like that would be the way people solo "casually" in XIV, while still "cooperating" with other people. I feel it keeps the original vision the devs had in mind (teamwork is still present somehow, even if you're not in a party with anyone).

I doubt it'll be the only way for people to solo, but it should be cool to see it added nonetheless.. with much more epic proportions. And if XIV rewards you a bit more for your time, things like Campaign Ops or saving the NPC's should have more value to the players. In XI they were cool features, but useless in the long run. Would be nice to set up a "strike team" to go and release prisoners from some beastmen fort, if there's an incentive to do it.

I think it still has lots of potential waiting to be fulfilled.

I'm sure a lot of ppl would be interesting in adding some kind of minigame like tetramaster ingame, because it was funny and it wasn't easy to collect 'em all, but i'm not sure if SE will pay attention to our wishlist.
