Is there any way to turn the sound off? Usually it turns off when I minimize an application, doesn't work here, though.

If you got Win7/Vista you can right-click the speakers-icon in your taskbar and select 'Open Volume Mixer', there you can mute individual programs.

From my past experiences in Upnp issues in my past. Its not just your pc. Make sure both your PC and Router are set up right. You could also close any anti-virus software for the moment of the update. I know from experience Avast free scans incoming and likes to slow things during transfer down so it can scan it all.

I cannot be the only one noticing this...

The music being played has the same high Sharp notes used in Slot Machines in Casinos.
The ones physiologically proven to cause positive emotional stimulation, to make you feel happy to spend your money at the slots. This fact was in a big book of "Facts you wouldn't normally know" that I have, it was also mentioned in a episode of CSI.

Make you feel good music! So those 12 hour updates don't make you hate SE....as much...

I'm all done alpha testing. Client crashes on startup because of my lulzy laptop chipset crap thing, I'm assuming.

make sure it's up to date on drivers and all that jazz, that or i can alpha test for you
