if companies gave their customers incentive to use and buy their products under the guise of friendly competition (ie achievement/exp point based system), people will pay more attention to their products and use them more often.
ex: your toothbrush has a sensor in it. use it once, get 10 points. use it 10 times in 5 days, get a 100 point bonus. use 500 points to get your next toothpaste at a large discount...
then he goes on to say that these incentives will evoke the masses into becoming "better people" because they know everyone else will be watching their scores and competing with them
