So according to a GAF user, that was banned for playing the pirated version, FFXIII on the 360 runs at 576p during both FMVs and in-game - PS3 version is 1080p during FMV and 720p in-game.

Thought people here would be interested in knowing that.

Cant wait till Friday, dude across the street from where I work said he should have it by then. :D

As long as the story is compelling and the bosses are hard, but rewarding.

March seems like a shitty month for my wallet...MLB 10 (which is going to keep me afloat when I beat XIII 13 times.) GoW3, BF2, and others...ugh

I think I said something like "where the fuck do I go now?", but that was a long time ago...

Sorta similar to when you get the airship in FF1. And there was like NO direction on that lol.

Still trying to decide if going midnight release is worth it. I won't be able to play after getting home even if I do get it, but that (false) glimmer of hope says 'SUMTHING ABOUT XIV MIGHT GO TO RUCKY FIRST GAMEZ!' ><.

Game seems way too easy so far. :\ Just press A during battles to auto-battle and let it make decisions for you.

I think people forgot how they played RPGs on the SNES/PS1. Attack attack attack attack attack attack attack attack heal attack attack attack attack attack fire attack attack attack attack heal attack ah, you get the idea.

Is it really so bad I don't have to focus on that anymore?

Only reason I'm leaning towards the former is because my brother has a 360 too, so on the off chance he ends up wanting to play it he wont have to buy it too.
What load times? The only load time I noticed when playing the JP version was when it would load my save at the start of a playthrough, after that: nothing.

Also for the guy wanting to control all 3 characters in this game with this battle system: good luck. That would be hectic beyond believe. The system is so fast paced you'll be happy only controlling one.

Auto attack let's you get away on alot of fights, but on some it won't. I personally didn't mind it did, but would have liked to see more battles needing manual input. Then again, not needing it, shows how good the AI is actually.

I haven't preorder this game yet and I was wondering if there were any preorder specials going on. I saw that target deal for a $10 gift card, is there anything else out there? Are any of the stores giving out any ffxiii merchandise?

Amazon has similar deal for a $10 giftcard, other than that dunno.

No one is giving out any incentive merchandise outside of gamestop, as listed above target and amazon doing giftcards. Hiryo said that toysrus was giving out a gift card as well.

    Gamestop's.

Reserve Final Fantasy XIII and receive a 32-page mini strategy guide. This mini guide contains direct samples from Piggyback’s 260-page, complete guide to Final Fantasy XIII. Available for store customers only, while supplies last.

I already have it, its not that great.

An incomplete strategy guide that probably covers the first three chapters of a game that moves you in a straight line? :D

I think I'd rather have the gift card.

is it just me, or is there considerably less hype around FFXIII on this board than there was for XII?

maybe less people visit this board than they did in 2006 (due to FFXI's decline)

Depends on where you're looking. I'm definitely not seeing TV/print ads for it in non-gaming publications but that's unchanged from X, X-2, XII, etc. Stores/magazines that peddle video games have their usual machines grinding away at the hype.

It probably doesn't help that it isn't christmas and maybe the marketing machine isn't as well oiled/staffed to handle a high AAA volume in the late winter. Video game advertising really only works on little kids who beg their parents for presents, anyway. Savvy consumers (read: this board) look up their own shit.

    We have a winner.

Attack took up 95% of fights in earlier FF's, even when you hit end-game and had all of the broken spells. The only FF I can remember where there was an intense focus on not simply spamming attack was heading down to Zemus in FFIV, because behemoths would just rip your shit if you spammed attack on them, and because Rydia sucked with her whip/rod, but hell, you've got meteor and flare, dammit.

Also Kain. Why freakin attack when you've got jump?

seems like less hype all around & everywhere. i was hoping to buy a collector's/limited edition of the game, as i always do, even though i probably won't even play through it anytime soon. i'm not even done with ff12. i'm defintely less excited about the series than i was back in the ps2 days, but i would've still picked up any limited american copy that came out.

As long as it has a good story, I don't give a damn what it lacks..

It will be light years better than the God of wars/Dante's Infernos which take a day to beat.

I don't know GoW 1-2 were pretty epic story wise.

I certainly haven't forgotten how I played older RPGs, and I enjoyed those much more than most RPGs today. In fact I still go back to Chrono Trigger and FF6 every few months to get that kind of experience since it seems to be dying out in modern RPGs.

    Apples, oranges, etc.

FF13's story is comparable to other entries in the series. Nothing groundbreakingly original but it's not riddled with false sentimentality, either. I'm tempted to call the story a standout strength of XIII. GoW's story is Kratos Meets God, Kratos Kills God. The 'epic' feel is 100% from the combat, not the storytelling.

The removal of towns(and finding sidequests) is the biggest change to the series. Somewhat a big loss, but totally acceptable. Other than that I am left confused on how people can dislike FFXIII while like other non-11 FFs.
