Got to GP this weekend and did the first few Missions. WTF at running all over the damned world all the time. Holy shit that's a lot of walking. Got tired of the long ass treking and stopped on Mission 3. I think i'm going to be in GP for a while. But oh man, it's beautiful and scary at the same time. I've never been so scared of turtles ...

Once you get your chicken it helps a ton. Those first 14 are alot of running, lol. But there is also a trophy for taking 10k steps in GP.

Getting waypoints (teleports) from certain mission helps a ton also. But yeah the first dozen or so are a lot of walking.

Beat it last night, loved this game so much. I'm about half way through the tier 10 now & farming my ass off for a few Omega weapons. I've got 67 hours in now and I know I'm gonna spend at least another week just grinding to finish the Tier and gil for the weapons. But I'm looking forward to it lol.

I think this is the first game I've played that the replay value has been worth the effort for me.

You actually get that trophy by completing the rebuild the robot quest in Oerba. Dont ask me what that has to do with 10k steps in Gran Pulse...

Finally got Treasure Hunter. Man that was a grind. Thank goodness I never have to fight another Oretoise.

Now I just need to 5* all missions to get my platinum. :D

Nah, you don't get it from rebuilding him. You just have to talk to him to activate the trophy.
i.e. if you didn't take your 10k steps and you finish the build quest you won't get the trophy; have to take your steps and then go talk to him again.

Got my 10k steps trophy loooooong before I even set foot in Oerba back on the JP version. Maybe it changed for the western release, since SE ninja'd some more stuff (like no pre-emp on Ochu's or Ribbon from treasure actually being random in the JP version, though I didn't do that in the JP version so not sure about that one).

So I finally got to Gran Pulse.

Cid was one of the most annoying bosses in the game so far. I can't wait to see some of the mission bosses.

Everything I'm reading makes it sound like it's most prudent to do the first 14-15 missions and then tackle the end of the story before going back to do the rest. Should that work or should I grind a bit more than that on Pulse before tackling Ch. 12-13?

18 missions in the first gp area and about 10 more as you progress through the story. I didn't grind very much but managed to cap my crystarium. I would do some digging though for some cash.

so what are the character specific abilities? I wanna unlock them first. And what do they do?

I haven't grinded at all (not a fan) and got stuck on the mission 12 boss. He destroyed me, it wasn't even a close fight... so I decided to move on with the story instead of grind. Hopefully you're better equipped than I!

Don't unlock them until the end of ch 11. But yeah, do mission 1-18 when u first get to GP unless you want to do a lot more backtracking later in the game. 1-18 opens up most of the mission stones along the way. and by the end of ch11 u should have done 1-28 (i think) if u do the first 18 before u start the story

so i'm in orphan's cradle and been given the option to warp back to GP. Should i go and do missions or just push on with the story?

Personally, I'd go ahead and push on with the story and beat the game, then go back to GP after you're done and do the side content. That's what I did. I was like 'meh' and went ahead and got it over with, and I never really leveled at all.
