Have you guys not realized by now that the argument over which FF is better will probably be running till the end of time and when the internet's finally switched off there'll still be three guys somewhere arguing over if Sephiroth was cooler than Kefka?
I'm planning on buying 13, but out of the FF collection in this house (we've got prety much everything released in Europe lying around in some form or other) - 12 and 9 are the two I've never managed to get into at all, 8 I gave up on but eventually finished (Rinoa made me want to punch the screen) and I actually liked 10! I don't like 12 at all, trying to pick it up and run through it at the moment - but apart from Balthier, I'm not enjoying it all that much.
13 I'm not too sure how I'll feel about - but yep like the SE crack addict I am I'll be down Gamestation (cos going into proper town to have a choice of shops requires effort) at opening time on release day.
Darus, you need to shut up. You can have your opinion, that's fine, but you're just trolling with the way you post, so stop.
Fair enough, I've been purposely trying to be cordial, not my fault correction wants to start a fight every-time, just callin it like I see it, moving on ->
So how about that FF13 guys?
Kinda disappointed the pre-order bonus for the game sucks. But only 5 more days to go, can't wait!
I may be the only person in the world that thinks that storytelling and gameplay aspects of FF has improved with each entry. I expect that it will continue with this new entry as well. Whether I like the direction the plot goes or the characters is one thing, but I expect that the gameplay will be less boring and the storytelling aspect will be improved (better VA, better cutscenes, etc.). This is what I'm hoping for.
Can't wait.
ugh, first impressions of this game are pretty depressing tbh. im sure this was probably mentioned at some other point during this thread, but there really is no depth to the combat system at all. its literally pretty much always just mash A on auto-attack and have it pick the best moves for you, and if you don't, you normally get penalized for it and don't get the 5 stars you would by having the game play for you.
the graphics are good, and i personally dont mind the story at all, it just doesnt feel like a game to me though, there's really hardly any strategy involved in it, just follow the linear path until you get to cut scene, fight a couple people along the way by spamming X, repeat
also kinda stupid how if the party leader dies, you automatically lose. love it when a boss one shots the party leader, and none of the AI can use a phoenix down on you. regardless im still probably going to bring myself to finish it just because its a final fantasy
That does not sound exciting at all.
I also feel that it is improving.
Well, the storytelling... anyway.
The gameplay seems all over the place but we're still a few steps ahead of the SNES era. Not sure what's in store with FFXIII but so far it doesn't look good.
Need some hands on time with the finished product before I pass judgment.
FFXII: People complain about the game playing itself in combat
FFXIII: People complain about mashing X in combat
FFXIV: People complain about not getting to beta test, because they feel entitled.
you mean with the whole role customizing stuff? even then it still doesnt feel like you need to make any meaningful choices, you level and max them out. and the whole "driving" your summon just doesnt feel like an rpg at all, more like a dumbed down action game. again, this is just my opinion to it, im sure theres gonna be a lot of people who like how it is now, it just doesnt feel like a final fantasy to me though.
I'm just saying that it's still early, and the battle aspect does get a lot better as the game goes on. I used to have the same opinion as you do when I first started playing (the JP version), but I don't anymore.
The battle system is not the problem (The whole first half of the game being a single tunnel is).
when people say tunnel do you mean its linear, or is it literally a hallway underground? lol
Spoiler: show
That's the first 10(less/more?forgot) hours.
right I get that its linear. is all that underground, making it a literal tunnel? or is tunnel just an odd choice of words
