I notice the same thing in some of my friends that are RPG gamers. They don't like to read anything, if a game doesn't have full voice acting, most of them won't play it, or they'll hate it. I don't know why they are this way, laziness I guess, but I think that having background info explained through some sort of documents that you find or whatever is a great way to do it just as Toth said. I don't know how many times I've talked to someone about a game we both played only to find out they didn't do any sidequests because the quest givers aren't fully voiced. They just skip talking to townspeople and others non-essential npcs altogether.

Don't get me wrong, it makes perfect sense in the story, but I think using the datalog only to do that wasn't the best idea mostly because it wasn't well integrated into the story like you would normally expect. If you had been able to find the datalog/analects on the ground or after you repaired that robot in Oreba would've been a much better connection.
True true. I do think though that the upcoming FFX-III 2 (or whatever the epilogue is suggesting) will deal with the War of Transgression and the aftermath on Pulse. It's called the Corridor of Memory afterall and I speculate that Lightning will go down 'this corridor' and explore Fang's and Vanille's memories and their time on Pulse/during the war.

edit: You do kinda find documents on the ground when you think about it. It's updated after ever major scene or battle XD

Generally there was a lot left to the reader/player to make their own conclusions about though. Which isn't bad if it's side stories but there were a lot of things in the main story left unexplained that were important. Having to constantly stop and read up a datalog or analect is probably more distracting to immersion for many people. On top of that after reading them you can't really say that they explained everything all that well (unless there was a shit load of info in the stuff you got from option side bosses at the end of game.)

You have to remember that at their heart FFs are RPGs not "very well laid out scripted scenario" playing games. Immersion is partly being able to walk into a city and ask them information on current and past events, fun stuff to do, and where to shop. Having pointless out of place exposition is bad but when done right it adds to the storyline. Really every time Light stopped to explain something factual to Hope did you go, "omfg, they're just patronizing me why didn't they just write this down!"

Looks like FFXIII-2's domain has been registered.
    Could be a fake though.

Could be fake, but it was registered by the same company that has registered all of SE's other recent title sites. Very interesting if true.

considering the amount of content that was rumored to be cut from the final version, i'd hope they would find a place to use it all. A sequel would be a good place i guess.

Would be quite interesting to see a new take on it with criticism from XIII taken into account.. Mainly lack of player involvement in combat, excess linearity and OMFG NO TOWNS

If we have to wait 6 years between main titles I'm all up for some milking, as long as the quality won't suffer.

When did they start playing RPGs? I find that most people like that didn't start playing RPGs till the back end of the PSX era. Anyone pre-Xenogears has a full appreciation of text in RPGs.

God I miss that game. A shame they could never bring out the full breadth of the game/series.

I find people like that started with shitty American-made RPGs.

Also, yeah, Xenogears... I've been playing through it again. Decently into Disc 2-- it's a shame how it suddenly turns into a visual novel due to time/money cuts.

Sorry for the bump, but I got 2-3 questions about the game. I just got to chapter 10 for the first time. And I just unlocked everyone roles so here are my questions

    1) When I complete everyone 3 main roles in a chapter should I start upgrading the secondary roles or should I wait longer in the game and save those points for when my main roles unlock?

    2) I saw that secondary roles take forever to level up (Where is a good place to skill them up (Currently in the 5th ark)).

    3) I don't understand weapon upgrading. I currently have Belladonna Wand to lv 20, should I get it to 99 before getting it to malboro wand or I can upgrade it to malboro before?

    Thanls

    3) I think each weapon has a certain limit at which point you can upgrade it to the next stage and can't level it up anymore. 'Ultimate' weapons go up to 99.

Ya but before upgrading a weapon to exemple 'Stage 2' do i need to get the stage 1 max lv first?

Yeah, but the max level isn't anywhere near 99 at that point iirc.

    More like 25-40 or so?

Also as for 1) I don't think you need to but I did do some grinding and ended up kinda regretting it. Whenever I hit capped exp I had to spend some points on the inferior roles but the benefit was too small really. It was pretty easy to cap exp too once your main roles were capped.

When a weapon has a Star next to it, it's at its max level and needs to be upgraded to continue.

Extra roles are situationally useful early on, but aside from say unlocking Fang's ravager for a rav/rav/rav paradigm or something it's really not worth doing.

The first place to farm CP comes pretty early on in chapter 11. Two big mobs will be fighting each other and you'll be able to start with a stagger and them at half hp. There's a save point close by, you can get them to respawn by running just past the save point. So rinse and repeat. I recommend just doing Cie'th missions in chapter 11 instead of farming right away though, you'll get decent CP running around doing those.

Before farming CP, do the missions to get the double CP item. It's worth the time.

Wait. It takes too much CP to get the extra jobs anywhere near useable. Or Get the Growth Egg (2x CP) and farm a lot of cp.
You might as well beat the game first though because you don't need to do it for the final boss. The final boss actually unlocks the last teir of crystellium or w/e it's called.

Are you talking about the King behemoth and the wolves? Because the behemoth destroys me

    2) when you finish a mission, can you repeat it? Or if you want to 5 star it make sure to do it first time?

    Thx

Yes, you can repeat any mission in the game. I tried my best to 5 star as many as I could my first time through (since I hate backtracking), but some seemed really difficult to do that on.
