Just picked this back up recently during a lull in my backlog. I can't wait to stop grinding and actually going back to doing missions lol.

Yeah I'm not even able to 5 star the 2nd mission yet lol (sucks to be me)

Next question, I alreayd asked but I just wanna clarify it.

After Alexander fight where you start the first Cieth' mission there is a group of 1 King Behemoth and 3 wolves fighting.

    1) Is there a way to preemptive them without a deceptisol (sp)? (They always see me)
    2) If #1 isisn't possible is there a way at the start of chap 11 to get deceptisol (sp) I only had 4 and they King fight vs the wolves gives me like 5.3k CP without the double item accessory.

    Thanks

I recommend just doing Cie'th missions in chapter 11 instead of farming right away though, you'll get decent CP running around doing those.

Are you talking about the King behemoth and the wolves? Because the behemoth destroys me

    2) when you finish a mission, can you repeat it? Or if you want to 5 star it make sure to do it first time?

    Thx

I think you are talking about a different fight than we were. The one we are talking about is a KB against one other large wolf.

You will find this fight right before you enter the Mines that will progress the story (head directly north). You will always score a preemptive strike without item use and it is very, very easy once you get the timing of juggling down on KB. This fight is far, FAR easier than the one you are talking about with the small wolves.

Better late than never, but I finally got Platinum clocking in at 96 hours. Definitely worth my time, and possibly replay again down the line. God I love this game.

Yes, it most definitely is. On my second playthrough, I decided to max out all main roles as best I could and then banked a bunch of CP. Just plowed through the story after and had no issues maxing out all main roles before the final boss and had a decent CP bank going after I downed Orphan to start my endgame grind.

Pretty much one of the best places to max out and stock up a huge amount of CP is against the minibosses that respawn right before Orphan. You take the elevator to the big guy with the sword and run back to the save point to respawn him (no need to reset the game.) Each fight gives 32,000 cp and once you're maxed out you'll kill it in about 30-60 seconds. The cycle only takes like 2-3 minutes all in all. I'd suggest to spend as much time as you can stand on that boss because nothing really comes close to the CP/min earned until you can kill the big badass turtles.

yeah I believe the general consensus was do the boss > revert to save at those guys > farm til ready for turtles > kill boss > endgame

Grinding in the final dungeon is a waste of time IMO.
Those enemies have a poor time/gil ratio and don't really help you accomplish anything other than grinding CP. You really don't need high stats except for the last few missions and Long Gui's.
I simply got the Growth Egg asap, skipped Adamantoises, 5-starred all missions with tier 1/2 weapons and by the time Long Guis spawned my characters were strong enough to fight them (though I had to main Snow and rely on Poison for damage at first - still kills them in two staggers). Got the Traps and Dark Matters I needed, used the sell->reload trick to get Treasure Hunter and done.
Long Gui's give insane amount of CP so I just capped the Crystarium with those.

Unless you're a completionist and want to max out every weapon, early Adamantoise farming is a terrible waste of time. 5% drop rate on Traps is not worth the time when you could be doing other stuff with low level weapons.
Plus nothing in the game is hard enough to justify level 100 weapons. Just get the 3rd stage for the extra ATB slot and save your money for something else if your goal is just the trophy.

Can't believe how different this game becomes at chapter 11. The first 11 chapters, while fun in their own right, got a little tedious, but since getting to Gran Pulse i'm really having alot of fun. I've decided to complete chapter 13 before going back for the missions on Gran Pulse but i'm completely stuck on form 2 of the final boss. Not the first form (the one with the wall of faces...but the second one that comes up out of the pool).

I'm capped stage 4 on the default classes and am using Fang, Lightning and Hope. Start off with SEN/MED/MED to get past the first Merciless Judgement, heal up and then switch to COM/RAV/RAV to stagger. I manage to get him down to around 50% but then he started using that fucking tail move that prevents specific actions being performed which have me stood there getting my ass kicked until all my characters were down. I once managed to get him down to 10%~ but then got fucked over by the random death move. I've gone through this fight maybe 15 times, and still manage to get my head caved in every time...

Anyone got any decent specific strategy? Maybe switching to Tri-Disaster to stagger faster? Switching to Vanille/Light/Hope and MED/MED/MED when he starts to spam Merciless Judgement?

If I remember correctly on that fight, enfeebles are your friend, especially poison.

As for being unable to do actions, doesn't remedy help with that? Been ages since I played this game, so sorry I can't give detailed info.

He won't spam Merciless Judgement from my experience and if he does: 3x SEN then switch back to 3 MED is a better option, but since you got the 3 basic rols leveled: Fang SEN, Hope MED and Lightning MED should be quick enough to get yourself back up and ready to rape. Can go with 3x RAV, though Fang isn't much good at it, better off as COM. But ya, get some enfeebles on it, much like the "wall" form it should eat it like candy.

I dont think Merciless Judgement damage can be mitigated in any way so Sentinel is useless. It just gets you down to like 1% of your max hp and unless you have Poison on you it should never kill you. He definately uses it at 50% so be prepared for that but otherwise its either random or on a set timer.
If you have problems with Death or getting Fog on your healer make sure to equip some accessories to help resist it.

As said above debuffs are your friend and same goes for buffs since it dont remember him dispelling any of those. I wouldnt bother with Poison unless you find yourself being on the defensive too much. Slow and Imperil should be priority and once you got Imperil to stick your Synergist also starts buffing Enfire.
Combine that with Deprotect, Deshell, Haste, Bravery and Faith and the guy should melt pretty fast.

    Maybe try this setup:

    Fang/Lightning/Hope
Sab/Med/Med - Start with this and use after a Merciless Judgement
    Sab/Med/Syn - Get all buffs/debuffs up obviously
Rav/Rav/Rav - Use to get his stagger up to around 900ish%
Com/Com/Rav - then switch to this for damage
Com/Rav/Med - If you need some healing during stagger or need to get rid of some debuffs on you

Merc judgment is % based damage but having SENs reduces the damage drastically, SENx3 you should only go as low as ~30-40%.

I figured Merciless Judgement was % based but didn't realize you had to be out of red HP for it not to completely rape. I ended up using the Poison trick and killed him off line 6 minutes or something.

Really enjoyed the game overall, not really felt like picking up a FF title again since IX but this one will definately deserve a second play through (even though the ending kind of blew...).

Ugh all this talk of post chpt 11 makes me rage. i can't seem to stomach the first 11 chapters. i sit down and play and want to punch all the characters save 2. So looking forward to chpt11+

I think once I kill Yaizmat on 12 Ill take a serious push to get to chpt 11 all in one sitting while watching a few movies or something.

I really hope they take this lesson to XIII-2. Just make the gameplay simply like the end game of XII and XIII

3rd time I've picked up this game and I cannot push myself to even remotely enjoy the plot.

On top of it the voice acting (especially with fucking Vanille) is about to make me put a 9mm to my head.

Please, for whatever significance its worth. Does the game get ANY better by disc 2? I've been pressing A on my Xbox controller for the past 6-8 hours now and haven't lost a fight. I think I've only used 3 potions max on disc 1? What the fuck.

I'm not sure exactly where disc 2 is since I played on PS3, but around chapter 11 is where it gets "good" if you want to call it that. If you haven't liked the game so far though, it doesn't really get much better.

What the hell? Don't pay attention to this. It gets a whole hell of a lot better by most standards.

The entire game up to Chapter 10~11 feels like a linear tutorial which is the majority of complaints about it... outside the 1-button mashing for easy battles that don't require more than one paradigm (which goes out the window once you encounter actually difficult fights). However, once you reach that point in the story, it opens up and allows some exploration, "side-quests," revealing of more lore/backstory, great grinding opportunities, money/item farming opportunities, and encounters with battles way out of your league. Most of those are things people yearn for the entire game up until then.

Thus, this is the point in the game where you should probably hold out for before giving up.

Also, haven't we grown out of these "1-button mashing" complaints since it's pretty obvious that the battle system's strategy is based around constructing appropriate paradigms and knowing exactly when and how to switch between them? I suppose this doesn't register for people until they've reached certain boss battles and/or the later chapters/hunts.
