Well, more specifically I mean most of the marks can kick your ass in chapter 11.

There are a couple decent power level spots. Spamming Mark 7 is good for money and decent exp. After that, there's a spot near a save point with a behemoth and giant wolf fighting. Save and try that fight. If you can take them both easily then you can use it to power level a bit.

I'd recommend just doing marks that are available to you.. most of them can be cleared without much difficulty (or a deceptishroud) and you'll be able to improveyour characters abit.. should also make it a point to unlock all the teleport stones that you can now so you don't have to do it later on...

I was intent on overleveling, so what I did was do a bunch of missions till it was kinda hard for me, then I killed barthandelus to uncap my crystarium again, threw my excess CP in and continued to do marks until I got to the Growth Egg one and killed the mark (took me forever, I used Death, cos its ridiculously hard to kill atm), then pushed on into the next chapter..

Its easy to burn out cos theres a lot to do, but you'll slowly get it. Its really hours upon hours of content...

Just beat this game, I know I'm late to the party. I didn't read anything before I played the game about the story, how to upgrade weapons, make optimal characters, etc. So it was a "raw" playthrough.

    My thoughts:

    Pros
    - The music in this game is so badass, probably my favorite from any FF game
    - Gran Pulse is pretty damn cool, I like how some stuff is way above your level when you first arrive
    - Barthandelus is a decent "bad guy"
    - Some of the graphics and scenery is top-notch
    - Lightning was actually a pretty cool "main" character, great upgrade from the stupid kid in FFXII
    - I like the crystallium system for character development, glad they stole it from FFX

    Cons
    - Partying... It seemed like it took FOREVER to get everyone your team together (too much duo/trio action early) and there was no "rogue" character like a Yuffie or Vincent. I still miss that.
    - Paradigms could have been great, but only 6 choices and having to re-do them each time I swap party members was really annoying. Also not being able to customize your synergists to tell them what to cast first and who to cast it on is a huge flaw. Vanille doesn't need bravery before shell, really, I swear.
    - Re-spawn rates on certain enemies was really annoying and ridiculous. I can understand stuff re-spawning in the huge plain in Gran Pulse when you zone out, but really 3 admiral soliders and a giant turtle just magically respawn after I walk 30 feet? Unrealistic and poor design.
    - As cool as Barthandelus was, he died WAY too easily... I expected a much more difficult fight given how badass he was throughout the game. Some random encounters were more difficult than he was.
    - The story was confusing / dragged on at times and the whole l'Cie / fal'Cie stuff was awkward and tounge-twisting. Took me a little while to comprehend the difference. Would have been better to make the names less similar for the average gamer who isn't going to gush over all the lore.

Overall though a pretty good game, not "epic" and very different from most FF games in how linear it is. I personally don't mind that, but I could see how others would.

Goddamn I just went through my two favorite cutscenes (10-1, and I think the other one is in the beginning of 12), and I wish I could MIB-flash my own memory to play the game again. I thought the story was mature and overall fantastic (barring some of the cheese). And the graphics? Oh lord the graphics...

    Pissed that FF13-2 won't be at E3, apparently =(

I was under the impression that 13-2 was for sure coming out in the winter, though 13-Versus (the Ps3 exclusive one) and the PSP one were being pushed back till '12.

You forget how the problems in Japan have effected everything, including game releases from japan. The NGP isnt even coming out in japan this year, but we're supposed to be getting it this year.

Damn that's a great point...and I think the part of me that wishes they'd release the game anyway is going to take the rest of me with it to hell...

    Bump with a question:

Have any of you played the Chinese version that has JP Audio and English subtitles? If so, are the english subs decent? I only played the game in Japanese when it came out, and i'd rather play it with English subs than the normal NA version (which for some reason I haven't played). Either that, or a youtube Let's Play / Playthrough / whatever that has JP audio and English subs? I wasn't able to find any with a quick search.

The Chinese version is official, meaning not like a rip off/bootleg/hacked copy of the game. Therefore, I believe the subtitles are actually genuine and taken directly from the English release, because the game came out after the EU/USA release.

If you can, a quick youtube of the copy and look at the subtitles, if in one scene it matches the subtitle you'd get in the English version anyway, then you know it'll be fine.

I have sort of a loaded question: What's the point of going back and finishing the missions once I've completed the main story?

I've done about a third of them, and I see a couple instances where there are brief additional cutscenes, and additional information shows up in my Datalog, but as far as I can tell I'm just doing the missions to get the "achievement", the opportunity to build the ultimate weapons, and other "100% completion" things.

But I beat the game, and these missions are all outside of the main story, and I guess I'm really not feeling the urge to personally achieve the full 100% on this game.

Am I missing out on anything other than shineyz by stopping here? Or is there more exposition for the main characters by digging deeper?

I wrote a piece on FF13. Not sure if anyone's interested in reading and I suck at self promotion, but here it is: http://backloggers.blogspot.com/2011...antasy-13.html

You're not really missing out on any story. The missions only give you that tiny little blurb from the viewpoint of some Pulsian person dealing with an unrealistic focus, which you don't need to complete the mission to even read.

The only thing you'll get out of going back and completing them is some unique items and the more difficult accomplishments/trophies.

Yeah, not much stuff basically :\. There is a minor scene after completing Titan trials, the Cactuar scene, and a few other scenes but you can probably just youtube all of them.

Basically just bonus stuff to do after completing the game (overall it's really just for people who just want to say they liked FF13 enough to complete all the bonus stuff. Normally I don't care about *achievements or trophies but in single player games they're I guess a way for me to show how much I like the game. If I like the game enough, might as well complete everything to show others "Hey I actually like FF13 enough to complete all the trophies!"

(So the bold part above is the reason why do the pointless post game stuff. Do you have a need to declare to others that you liked FF13 enough to unlock all the trophies?)

*While I'm fine with achievements in single player, it's different in multiplayer games like BF2, they promote bad stuff like trying to get 17 knife kills a in round instead of helping your teammates win[the objective of the game]. Also in TF2 you have people spending all game trying to get a taunt attack sometime for achievement >.> [people who don't know you can just join achievement servers to do it that is.]

Anyway - You can actually finish nearly all of them before getting the last tier of Crystarium from completing the game - for example Titan's final trial can be finished by using three ravagers to chain up to 400-500% then switching to Sentinel on a character [with Protectra at least. You'll get up to 400%+ stagger before it switches to its "going to one shot everyone" mode.)

*A Sentinel with Evade makes the fight a joke. Evade reduces damage done by 20% (Same as Steelguard[initially] and Mediguard) AND it grants a 50% chance to dodge an attack. It's really good for that fight.

However I'm not sure if the last trial (and the super turtles immune to death) can be defeated before unlocking the last Crystarium tier.

I disliked the mark system and disliked Crystarium not being fully unlocked from the beginning.

I like to 100% everything before completing the game or else it seems all the other optional afterward stuff seems pointless but fortunately SE is "apparently" fixing this with FFXIII-2 (not sure about post game content but they did at least say Crystarium will be fully unlocked from the very beginning which is good.)

Why kill Emerald in Ruby in VII? Why hunt down Omega in VIII or... Omega in X? Or Omega in XI? Scratch that last one.

We do it to be elite, right? Bragging rights? So everyone in the cafeteria can hear you gloat, even if you really shouldn't? Why Prestige in Call of Duty? Test the limits of your Geek.

Postin' here since I'd rather not spam up another thread. I can't seem to Google me a decent guide as to order of operations for farming/grinding items for the purpose of getting the trophies.

I'm just trying to minimize any wasted time. Already maxed out one primary role for character, got nothing upgraded besides a couple weapons, gotten growth egg. Been grinding CP on that one mission in the tower while gathering information, but there's nothing clearcut that I can find.

Best place to farm CP would have been Orphans Cradle tessaracts, but since you can't do that anymore you can just do it while farming trapezohedrons or something. It might seem far at first but it goes away very quickly
And before you know it you have shitload of excess CP.

I did farming of the grand turtles for Gil and traps to upgrade weapons and that's where I stopped. Couldn't be bothered to farm more Gil to max out "ultimate" weapons which didn't really have much use other than to farm faster
