No amount of gear SE puts in or spells will lead to AV being easy... AV will still own you dealing 500 a hit,2k+ magic and have dragons that blow up and wipe allys. lets not forget how many shells have killed it for real? 1 maybe 2? If they do not change AV this may lead to some of the stronger LS's having a shot at killing it.. ones that have downed or or come close may take it to the farming point. Still I do not see AV just becoming a big bitch. It will still be off limits by about 90% of the players >.>

People keep making this comparison but you didn't spend 7 years collecting all this best in slot/situational gear and then have the slate wiped clean in WoW either. What they do with itemization in the 76-99 game could be completely game changing. People spent a great deal more time and resources getting these things than they did in WoW. Ideally I don't want to see all these items made obsolete but I guess we'll see what they decide to do. I just hate hearing this comparison to WoW, it isn't the same at all.

Your characters might be 7 years old, but you didn't spend 7 years collecting all the "best in slot" equipment. You gradually farmed them as they were released. With a linkshell, you can generally get the best gears in less than a year.

Also, did you ever tell yourself when you were farming Ridill or morrigan body: "I hope I'm going to be wearing this 7 years from now"? You have to expect an upgrade eventually.

Anyway, after how many years of nothing must the game stop changing?

SE has a fair history of horizontal progression, so maybe it won't be all that bad.

I've never really seen Ridill do too much for anybody other than meriting, although I'm sure for leveling from 75-mid to high 80s it'll still be the best off-hand exp you can have, and maybe even to 99.

Making gear obsolete isn't SE's style like many have referenced from WoW. We still use lowish level gear (RSE2, Sh+1, Hauby+1, etc.) when most WoW players wouldn't be caught dead in gear ~20 levels lower than their current level (even green gear 20 levels higher is better than most blue gear and some purple lower than that).

People complained pretty heartily about the crap that was (and still is, I suppose) augmenting gear, because of how random and stupid most of the augments are. The new announcements seem to emulate "socketing" gear, so maybe it would be nice to be able to decide to socket a V.belt with rare "sockets" that upgrade it to level 99 worthiness.

I disagree. Do you know how much health Paladins are gonna have at lv 99? Enough that 500 damage hits will mean nothing with incredibly capable mage jobs supporting them now. Not to mention the potential buff of the ninja subjob.

In any event a noob social/leveling shell probably wont be able to do it obviously, but I wouldn't be surprised if your slightly above avg to avg sky shell could do it now.

edit: I think people forget, your not just changing IT mobs to EP or TW by raising the cap, ALL your stats are going up. HP MP INT MND STR DEX VIT etc etc. And 80 slow weapon/armor augments please, no mob in this current game will be a challange to any shell that can organize itself.

At WoW 60 cap, ask fury warriors what they had equipped for their hand slot? WoW hasnt always had the best itemization either.

Yep, yep, you're right there ^_^

Now then, I wonder why you would want to buy an account at max level...leveling up seems like half the fun of playing ffxi.

As far as Riker's comment goes, he's right about the tiered way certain levels react against one another in regards to damage. Just by being an "old" hnm's equal in level reduces the amount of damage you take, and with new gear/abilities, level 99 damage mitigation may in fact rise exponentially.

This is not to say that AV will become necessarily a walk in the park, but perhaps you might see a dynamis ls being able to take him down with about as much difficulty as most now take out Kirin (Soymilk did a few kirins a couple months ago as an anniversary event, and I was very surprised at how easily we took him down with very minimal deaths following established tactics).

On another note, I can't wait until my level 99 rdm saunters over to ol' Byakko and pulls out the sword/shield, SS 2, phalanx 3 and just beats on him until he drops his pants. Or maybe I'll wait until the next snowmageddon hits and toss him outside to swim back like those fools on youtube...

So tired of the bullshit speculation about the updates already. Gah. Your shit's not gonna turn useless overnight, stop whining. At most I see some better-optimized gearsets with a few key pieces being replaced... they're aiming for most armor to be upgraded through the Magians quests rather than replacing gear entirely. There will be some fun new stuff from NMs but honestly I think the bulk of new gear is going to be AF3 from Abyssea.

I could personally see <75 and 75 gear becoming obsolete. from 76-99 there will be all new gear(i'd assume) which can also be augmented w/ the Magian questline. I think we as players should just let go and realize lvl 75 is now just another lvl in which you need to become 99.

I'd say that was perhaps possible, but SE's past strategy has revolved around creating more situational gear, not really making gear obsolete. If they do create, say, a mab+15 earpiece, it would probably be freakin hard as all hell to get (like the current earring is), so replacing current MAB earrings with new earring is unlikely for ~90% of the ffxi population for quite awhile.

What I would love to see (and this would really create a new opening for underdeveloped gear) is SE rolling back to the classic WS + WS = SC + MB. They could easily do this by, say, making level 99 exp mobs with 15k hit points, where a normal (new, past 75) weapon skill does 2000 damage most of the time, but the skillchain created does around 4000 damage, and the MB does around 4k, so that spamming ws just wouldn't work with most mobs.

And, on top of that, they could use thiefs to regulate hate in the party other than some measly TA damage that is 1/2 any (heavy) DDs WS. Maybe an ability on a 1 minute timer that steals hate from one player and gives it directly to the tank, to make them fairly useful.

If they do this, they may have to increase the base exp for mobs to get that preferred 15k/hour starting point for most exp parties.

It's hardly nothing. I spent so much time an energy when I finally got my 5/tic I ran upstairs and woke up my mom. It's a perfectly valid fear & complaint.

Finally someone with some sense. Thank you that's a perfect analagy. And assuming anything from sky is still worthwhile (even Wlegs may be replaced which is kinda sad and nostalgic unless theres a stackable boot equivalent) I will be pwning some sky gods too.

AF3 huh? Clearly you havnn't spent a long enough time camping or running a dynamis shell to get your gear to have such fears.

PS. I'm watching Teeth. Idk what creepier the anti-sex clinic for little kids, the kids touching each other in the pool, or oh yeah, the girl having teeth in her vagina.

All equally creepy. Is that Gattuso over there in your avatar? And... stuff about outdated gear. I can't remember FFXI times...
