If you were able to hop through a higher dimension in order to follow spacelike paths (i.e. ftl) you wouldn't be required to be moving necessarily with any significant 4-Vector.

That is roughly what hyperspace devices in various sci fi and other such stories are describing, traveling from point a to point b without crossing the space between them.

If you disappeared from here without seeing redshift, and popped in near alpha centauri without a significant velocity, you wouldn't see redshift because you'd be at rest with regards to the CMBR roughly.

If you repeated this and popped in near Wolf 359, Sirius, Betelgeuse, etc, spending less than 1/60th of a second in 3+1 space after each hop, your eyes could not distinguish anything but a smooth appearance of motion with respect to the background stars.

Perhaps you've never been riding in the backseat of a car going down a highway and blinked repeatedly while watching the trees by the side of the road, each time you blink it looks like you're at rest.
My bad, I missed the part where you said it was jump. I figured we were talking about the real physics where nothing seem to indicate that jump are possible.

Secondly, yes, you need to take these picture at rest from each other if you want to avoid the redshift/distortion, however, you also need to delay every picture or you will see your point of focus aging backward, which isn't mentioned in the video.

videos like this are why i love life. we're a fucking mimic, and we're going to mimic bacteria and spread our little flu to the rest of the universe. it's going to take a really long time, but all we need to figure out is how to sustain life and movement while suspended in space.

this is the active driving force behind human civilization. it is why you reproduce, it is why you find your own purpose in a society. you are acting as part of the human species, and your free will is always bound to the laws of human existence. humans want to move, whether you know it or not. most of the space junkies know it already, but we are going to move. adapt or die. that is the rule.

strange question, but this one is prolly for miz/other space people. how big of a sphere would you have to make to create the same visual perspective as earth? as in, how big/dense of a beach ball do you have to make before people start walking on it and see it as a visually flat surface?

The answer is definitively: "as big as my balls".

The question is easy to answer if you knew how far the horizon has to be to produce the illusion (or what angle), however, I'm not quite sure what the minimum value would be.

I know that for someone on the ground on Earth, it's close to 5 kilometers, but you definitively don't need to be able to see this far to feel like it's flat.

    [edit]

I calculated 286km radius for an horizon at 5 kilometer that is 1 degree lower than your vision (normally it's 0.02 degree drop)

Well, I was only talking about a way that you could produce the visuals seen in the animation.

If there were a certain type of hyperspatial dimension "on top" of the 3 we see, and it were oriented such that rotation through that dimension resulted in a translation through the lower three, you could conceivably make your entry point later temporally than a purely tachyonic path.

Totally not saying it's realistic or implied by real physics, just that it's a common type of effect described in various sci-fi stories, and that it could look like the video if done right.
