I have to admit, from an outsider's perspective, I am amazed that Congress finally grew a pair and passed health care reform legislation. I do not know if this will have the same effect on the American health care system that Tommy Douglas' 1962 reforms in Saskatchewan did for the rest of Canada, but I can only hope that things will start to improve in America in the health care and insurance system.

Stupak is owning Republican's motion to cockblock bill at the last minute.

This is a thing of beauty.

it's a start. at least people can't be denied coverage or arbitrarily dropped. We'll also subsidize health insurance for lots of people.

Obama hasn't signed the bill yet. I think he plans to do some later this week. After that, I'm not sure what has to happen until it goes until effect.

As soon as Obama signs it (rumored to happen tomorrow or Tuesday) the insurance company regulations go into effect immediately. The rest of the reforms (such as penalties, etc) will not go into effect completely until 2014.

Yea I saw that a few things would be in effect in a few years, like premium taxes and those penalties.

wooooooooooooooooah, wait, so when Obama signs this, am I insured again (I'm 23)? I'm not her dependent anymore, so does this mean this doesn't apply to me?

Edit: Wait, I was raised by my grandmother, who's on Medicare, so I'm assuming I don't get that under any circumstance for 42 more years

In other words, if he signs it tomorrow, then Tuesday you can be put back on your parents' insurance. 30 million people who are sick or cannot afford coverage will now have the chance to get it.

My only concern is the rising tendency of Americans to be lazy and obese. If anything, all industries in America need an overhaul. Restaurants that intentionally use addictive shitty ingredients to increase profits and cause unhealthy people to eat more (stupidly). Manufacturers that make cheap products so that people buy more because the shit doesn't last long. Insurance companies that gouge prices because they can. Credit companies which raise rates. The list goes on.

This country's entire problem is that people love money so much that they are coming up with ways to 'capitalize' on the unfortunate stupidity or circumstance of others.

Hey, if that's the way to get ahead in this world, more power to you. Don't get pissed when the poor people break down your door and steal your shit because you worked for it and they didn't. After all, it's their fault they're poor, right?

I think this best sums up the passing of this bill. Also, people that are worried about the money this bill will cost overall in 10 years, well; it will never reach the amount of money that we have spent in both the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War. Which is roughly over 1 trillion dollars right now. I guess the only debatable topic in this bill in my opinion would be the pro-life/pro-choice. I am willing to pay taxes for someone who is raped, incessed to have an abortion. So much argument to the abortion thing though it's crazy cause as much as you think you can see it one-sided, you HAVE to look from both points of view. It's like a neverending battle with your conscious.

rofl at the fox news comments on this.

    Oh, it's so good.

"I won't purchase this. Come and get me. Bring an army."

"What if??? Could the states start to secede from the union over this??? Just asking???"

"Dear Grandchildren, I didn't support this. I didn't vote for this. I'm so very sorry for your lost future. Signed, Your broke, over taxed Grandfather"

"The democratic party will cease to exist after tonights vote. We Americans will ban together and vote you out of existence!"

    oh man. this is great.
