    Fraudulent Charges from SE

Dunno if this was brought up or if it's even in the right section, but whatever. I did some looking online and found that a lot of people actually had this problem (some of whom claim they've never used a SE service/product).

Recently I've been noticing some charges from SE that show up on my bank account as CHECK CARD[bunch of numbers]SQUAREENIX[more numbers]. The amounts show up at the beginning of the month as $31.90, $15.95, and $40.95 for January, February and March of 2010. Now, I can see how the first two charges could be POSSIBLE in terms of POL subscriptions, but the $40.95 charge, if I'm not mistaken, is only possible if you have one account ($12.95) and 28 mules on that same account ($1.00 each). Regardless, I cancelled all of my content IDs in April of 2009, and the charges for the subscriptions I actually used were all $13.95 and listed as SQUARE ENIX/PLAY ONLINE. I'm positive I deactivated all my content IDs and uninstalled POL viewer, and I've never used this card to pay for anyone else's subscription.

Needless to say I was lazy and waited til near the end of the 60-day time period to notify my bank of the fraudulent charges since the money wasn't THAT big of a deal to me and I could wait. They filed the claim and credited my account.

Anyone else have this problem before? I suppose it's worth it for people to double check their transaction history to make sure it hasn't happened to them.

One of the sites with people reporting their fraudulent charges from SE:

Sounds remarkably like the double billing problem people were having for a while back in the day, was a big brouhaha cause it caused a lot of extra fees from chargebacks and overdrafts.

If you're not trying to maintain your account or anything you'll probably be fine just with the bank claim, but I guess just keep an eye out?

    15.95 + 25.00 (server transfer fee) = 40.95

This is the important question if you claim to have canceled the account.

Sounds like someone else reactivated it and left your cc on it.

    This ^^

Even thought you deactivated your content ID's, your CC info is still saved to the account.

So if you gave away your account, or sold it....... and never changed the CC info, then the person who has your account just reactivated the content id's on the saved card.

I was charged $25.90 and $2.00 for my extra content ID. I guess I was double billed... What exactly can you do about this?

Can do a charge back on your credit card and then when you do that they'll ban your account because they could not extort you properly in their terms of service.

You sure they weren't just billing you for two months?

I had a problem back in January where I was in Disneyland & randomly got charged $58 from SE. I called them up bitching and was told to contact my bank. Did so, got a new debit card, had charges reversed. I assumed it was a fraudulent charge.

March comes along, and I want to activate my boyfriend's old FFXI character that I'd stopped playing last June or July. Account says it's been banned. I contact SE and they tell me I owe $58 on the account. Apparently someone hacked the account and transferred Scunsion off. Tight.

So then they tell me I have to pay the $58, then call them back (I was on hold for 45 mins to get through), and submit a character retrieval thing, and after they do an investigation to see whether or not the transfer was done by me, I may or may not get my $58 back. I said I was in fucking DISNEYLAND, and I can fax tons of information to prove said charges were not done by me. The customer service guy told me I have to pay the $58 in order to receive any help from Square Enix.

Lot of BS really. SE's customer service is pretty terrible.

Don't do chargebacks, it gets your account banned.

SE triple billed me for the first mini-expansion. I contacted the SE support through the web chat. They apologized profusely and gave me an email adress. I had to take a SS of the transactions they had falsely done and send it to them with a description of the problem.
One week later I had the money back on my bank account.

I got charged $24 this month on a brand new 2nd account instead of the regular $12.95 or whatever the hell it is. I don't know what kind of math they came up with to charge me that so now I have to deal with their bullshit for yet another billing problem.

Lets all hope XIV's billing system works just as good.
