Seriously. This respawn bullshit makes people worse and games worse. I loved the fact that ranked games were no respawn and you had to be tactical and careful about every single move you made. It made the matches that much more fun.

God I would stay up all night drinking red bulls and chain smoke playing that game lol

Honestly, I would take respawns over the plague that is regenerating health. Fuck that shit.

SOCOM didn't have regenerating health, or are you talking about cods regen?

Nothing will ever compare to SOCOM 1. Nothing like staying up to the break of dawn in a war because the last map was Death Trap (I think, the one with the underground area and the hostages). To me, SOCOM 2 and 3 were huge let downs and just couldn't recapture SOCOM 1's gameplay. And this last abomination by Slant 6 was just.. ugh.

Definitely hoping this one will be fun. My expectations are low, though.

I was talking about current-gen shooters in general. CoD, Halo, etc.

Of course the lack of respawn means the matches are more intense since every moment counts, but it's something that could also easily be applied to most games.
(a last man standing mode for instance, along with a team variant. Loved that shit to death in UT2K4)

Regenerating health is just bullshit though.

Ya, I remember walking around in SOCOM with a sliver of health and being the last guy up praying to pull some shit out of my ass lol

Had a nostalgia trip thinking about socom1; anyone remember that desertish map with like.. adobe houses? and tents on the beginning and end of it? There were two glitches on the map where you could wall rub yourself under the map and every match on that level it was basically a race for each team to try and get under before the other.

And idk how but camping at the end of hallways actually worked in Socom where as in CoD the universal lag everyone gets means the camper doesn't see the guy round the corner for a split second after the guy who rounded the corner did which means death for the camper since 2-3 shots kills.

lol, I remember gamesharking infinite ammo a week or so into online play and it improved my gaming a lot because I always worried about reloading into a magazine that only had like 5 bullets. I hope they bring that back now after playing on CoD's magical magazines that instantly would share bullets.

Socom II was hands down probably my favorite shooter, and it's a pity it went to all the cheating after awhile. IMO the series just went downhill from S2, Confrontation isn't terrible now-a-days. Hope Zipper doesn't screw up, made my day seeing this though.

Oh God, Nightstalker--the second best map. Blood lake was the best, though.

I remember the ladder glitch. You climb the ladder, slide down, turn around, then it lets you climb down under the floor. So many glitches in that game, but still so much fun. Nostalgia trip, indeed.

Looks like it will be able to be fully controlled with the new Playstation Move (the PS motion controller)

It was fun until everyone started glitching / code9ing up every server . I never played Socom1, but loved 2. Socom3+ were meh, I stopped at Combined Assault. Hopefully 4 will be like 2.

Hands-on: SOCOM 4 (with PlayStation Move!)

    http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/ha...ystation-move/

There are two questions I'll try to answer with this quick hands-on preview. Firstly, is SOCOM 4 the true sequel to the SOCOM franchise we've been waiting for? Secondly, does the PlayStation Move controller work as intended?

It's hard to answer the first question, especially within the constraints of a ten-minute demo. What I can say is that even in this early state, SOCOM 4 looks very good, sporting incredibly detailed environments. While the early code has a noticeably choppy framerate, there was already a large number of objects in the environment. Whether its a car, a trash can, a thrown out mattress, there are tons of objects to take cover behind in the world.

Controlling your squad should be familiar to anyone that's played a recent SOCOM game. Holding L1 on the Move allows you to slightly slow down time and direct your team to move to position and await orders. You can even call in an airstrike by holding down the Move button and holding Down on a target. After sneaking down an alley, we were able to catch a large squad of soldiers lounging in an open field. They had no idea what hit them as the bombs dropped.
Considering tactics are an important part of the SOCOM franchise, it's hard to judge the depth of Zipper's return to the series. Still, it's refreshing to finally see a single-player SOCOM adventure on a current generation console. We quizzed a Sony rep if any tech from Slant Six's Confrontation made its way into the game, and he firmly said "no." We're not sure if that will reassure fans burned by the last PS3 SOCOM game, but it seems this effort is a clear departure from before.

PlayStation Move worked exactly as we thought it would, resembling the experience of playing a Wii FPS. Aiming is very fast and responsive on the Move, although I'm still much more skilled with analog sticks than I am with motion controllers. The early demo didn't include any promised enhancements, such as motion-controlled grenade throws, or the ability to tweak the aim "box" that's customizable in most recent Wii games. What SOCOM 4 did effectively prove, though, is that a game as hardcore as SOCOM can feel natural with the Move, as it only took minutes to finally get accustomed to taking cover and shooting baddies.

Interestingly, Zipper Interactive seems to believe that the Move and the SIXAXIS/DualShock controllers can co-exist online. While there's still a lot of work to be done on the game, the end goal is for players using either controller to play against each other online. Obviously, some players will be better with standard controls, while others will be better with motion. It'll be interesting to see if either side manages to gain the "edge" over time. Certainly, an online game of this scale can be an experiment in which controller truly reigns supreme.

    April release

    http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/14/so...il/1#c32658770

After seeing its deployment delayed into 2011 way back in July of 2010, Zipper Interactive's latest entry in the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs franchise finally has a more tangible release date: April 2011. The date was nonchalantly dropped in a Wall Street Journal article on PlayStation Move, which the game has become a key "core" title for. SCEA subsequently confirmed to Joystiq that its release is indeed set for April. Mark your calendar -- with a bullet!

Killzone 3 includes admission into SOCOM 4 multiplayer beta
Yo, readers: Sony heard you like shooting, so it put a shooter in your shooter so you can shoot while you're shooting. More specifically, the publisher has announced that both regular and Helghast Edition copies of Killzone 3 will include vouchers which give early access to the SOCOM 4 multiplayer beta.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the beta will arrive at the same time as Killzone 3's launch -- Zipper Interactive's Chris Roper explained on PlayStation Blog, "To find out when the SOCOM 4 multiplayer beta begins, be sure to check back at SOCOM.com once you pick up your copy of Killzone 3, hitting shelves on February 22nd." Perfect; so we'll have some time to get really used to Killzone 3's control scheme before switching over to SOCOM 4's presumably wildly different control scheme. We anticipate that we'll be eating quite a few of our own accidentally-thrown frag grenades.

SOCOM 4 Ships Out April 19th, New Multiplayer Video
Everyone here at Zipper Interactive is pleased to announce that the wait will soon be over! As our headline says, SOCOM 4 is scheduled to hit stores in North America in just a few months on April 19th.

Earlier this week at the Zipper headquarters in Redmond, WA, we invited the media and 18 SOCOM community members to check out the latest version of our game. Not only did they get an update on the progress of our single-player campaign, they were also treated to an extensive look at several of our multiplayer modes, which, as any SOCOM fan will tell you, is absolutely the game’s bread and butter.

Early next week, we’ll have another update on the PlayStation and SOCOM blogs to let you know what members of the community thought about their visit to Redmond and their hands-on time with SOCOM 4. In the meantime, we’d love for you to check out our “Not For Self” multiplayer trailer by clicking on the video above.

Also, for you veteran SOCOM fans out there, head on over to GameStop.com and bring back classic SOCOM memories with another new trailer, this one for the GameStop pre-order exclusive “Abandoned” Map!

The good news is that this is just the beginning of an upcoming flood of SOCOM goodness. As we count down the days and weeks to April 19, you can expect plenty of news, details and media to get you hyped up for what we think is the best SOCOM game yet. Enjoy the ride!
