After playing for a couple of days I'm convinced the game on the surface is decent and probably worth purchasing so long as you play with friends. The two maps so far aren't nearly as massive as old socom maps felt for whatever reason, but I agree that the foliage is incredibly dense and it's kind of annoying. Albeit it makes the style of gameplay interesting but for respawn matches it's hard as fuck to move fast enough to check shit out when your movement is so slow. That said there is a considerable deadzone in the analog programming in the game adding to the frustration of laggy inputs. I know a lot of these issues are solely because it's still in beta phase but man, that's a lot of issues.

-What the hell is up with the camera angle? shit is awful. I heard they planned on discussing it, so hopefully it gets tweaked.
-AR's have insane recoil when zoomed in.
-I killed a handful of teammates because I couldn't who they were.
-Movement speed was slow as hell, Socom isn't worth playing if I can't play it on 10 sensitivity.

All my boys are on this, but I realllllly don't wanna be suckered into buying another shitfest of a game like I did with S3 and Confront.

Killzone 3 code people can use theirs now. I hate this patching for 1.5 or something gb, fucking p2p making internet slow as shit. Does the matchmaking put you in with similar skill/level people or just randomly throws you in with little to no help?

It just throws you in lol, have fun playing against people like me who join against you in a large group of people with mod 5 weapons/high ranks. Tbh though as long as you don't rush you'll be fine. Whenever I'm leveling crappy weapons without mods yet I just play defensively and I still go positive by a good amount due to the people trying to rush your spawn and camp there.

How many people have actually been convinced to buy the game at this point? At first I thought that ok, maybe this has some potential. And while I still feel that way I also feel that it can get very boring very fast. Now I haven't been playing with a lot of different people but the guys I've played with so far aren't sold on the mechanics and tbh neither am I.

The guys I play with are planning on buying it but I think it's mostly because we're sick of black ops and this is something to play until battlefield 3.

After about 5 matches I truly enjoy this. It defiantly feels better than Confrontation except the engine makes it feel like I'm playing a third person MAG.

Beta will be available for everyone today.

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...le-april-5-13/

The last three weeks have been great for us here at Zipper Interactive! Our private, PlayStation Plus, and Killzone 3 voucher testers have been integral in helping us put the finishing touches on the multiplayer aspects of SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs. But that’s the past – and now, the special invitation period is over because starting today, anyone and everyone with PSN access can freely download the SOCOM 4 beta from the PlayStation Store during its regularly-scheduled update. The beta’s availability on the PlayStation Store ends April 12th.
Our servers will be open all day, every day until the beta period ends on April 13 at 11:59pm Pacific Time (2:59am Eastern). However, we will limit what modes are available for the first few days to keep our testing focused before opening all queues for the home stretch. Here’s how the schedule looks in its final phase:
Tuesday (4/5) – Last Defense, Classic Last Defense, Uplink, Classic Uplink
Wednesday (4/6) – Bomb Squad, Classic Bomb Squad, Last Defense, Classic Last Defense
Thursday (4/7) – Sniper Alley (Custom), Last Defense Run ‘n Gun (Custom), Bomb Squad, Classic Bomb Squad
Friday (4/8) – All Gametypes Open
Saturday (4/9) – All Gametypes Open
Sunday (4/10) – All Gametypes Open
Monday (4/11) – All Gametypes Open
Tuesday (4/12) – All Gametypes Open
Wednesday (4/13) – All Gametypes Open
Our multiplayer beta includes two maps, Port Authority and Assault & Battery, and offers a variety of built-in game-types and custom game-types. Here they are:
Suppression: SOCOM 4’s version of “team deathmatch.”
Last Defense: Capture controls points, discover the enemy base and destroy it.
Uplink: Steal enemy data and deliver it to your base.
Bomb Squad: Defend your bomb technician while he disarms enemy explosives.
Sniper Alley (Custom): An 8 vs. 8 version of Classic Suppression with higher damage. Weapons are limited to sniper rifles, shotguns, smoke grenades and poison gas.
Last Defense Run ‘n Gun (Custom): Faster movement speed and reduced damage are applied to 16 vs. 16 Last Defense with weapons restricted to only shotguns and SMGs.
Scrum (Custom): Suppression is given rule tweaks of no respawn, faster movement and higher damage, while sniper rifles, frag grenades, concussion grenades and poison gas are disallowed.

All built-in game-types (i.e. non-“Custom” queues) are playable in both the Standard and Classic variations. Standard mode is similar to the single-player experience, while Classic mode is similar to older SOCOM titles with increased movement speeds, round-based play, no player respawns and the lack of health regeneration. Our Custom types mix and match a number of game settings depending on their focus.
After you’ve had a chance to play the beta, we’d need to hear your feedback! To do so, simply head on over to our official “Beta Forum” on SOCOM.com where you can tell us what you think.
On behalf of everyone at Zipper Interactive, I want to thank all of you who have participated in the SOCOM 4 beta regardless of its phase, and look forward to seeing you again when we ship the full and complete version of SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs when it launches on April 19 across North America.
Oh, and don’t forget to pre-order SOCOM 4 today to gain access to a pair of exclusive slug-powered shotguns (one each for Spec Ops and the Insurgents), while those who specifically pre-order at GameStop get the shotguns in addition to the exclusive Suppression map, “Abandoned,” inspired by the classic map of the same name from SOCOM 1 and II!

Seems like the servers are either down or have maintenance? I can't connect to the beta.

That why "receiving updates" is only at 26% after 30min?

Havent really touched a SOCOM game since SOCOM II but I been really enjoying this the more i play it. Classic Mode feels great, and Respawn mode is entertaining, the Jungle Map bugs me because of the superthick foliage but otherwise i dont have too much to gripe about that hasn't already been stated. hopefully we'll see some more oldschool maps in this, I'd love to see some Blood Lake, Desert Glory and Fishhook, if not now later as some DLC.

For some reason I'm just not really feeling it for this game. Perhaps it just feels too much like a modified version of MAG to me, or that I prefer MAG more? I'll be waiting for a review I guess as I could use me a single player campaign that's more about being tactical rather than run n' gun.

Review embargo lifted, mixed reviews it seems. At least it's better than what I played out of Confrontation.

So they didn't fix shit from the beta but plan on doing it through updates? The fuck. I got a GB clan invite, but I'm holding out until they properly patch this shit up.

Yeah, when I was playing the beta I thought it felt like 3rd person MAG. I barely remember playing SOCOM II, but I want to like this just so I have something different to play. Is there any kind of tactical modes from what you guys could tell before PSN was down, or is all the multiplayer just run and gun like call of duty?

SOCOM 4 has the run and gun respawn mode, but there is also a CLassic mode ala SOCOM II
