The anger in this thread is amazing.
I still think it is too subjective to say that a fetus is not a child and say it is purely opinion but then again a lot of people will say one thing or the other based on their circumstances.
A woman who has had an abortion or thinking about one isn't about to justify murdering a child and rather think of it as a piece of flesh then a child.
Not yet but its seething. The anger in this thread is amazing.
I have a feeling this is gonna be another one of those 50 page bitch fests thats going to start soon.
Weeee here we go again!
personal attacks ect.
Instantly you say "I have no real argument or valid opinion so I am going to poison the well so no argument can be made."
Edit: Archi unless you are wooshing me and I didn't realize you were being sarcastic, to specifically explain what I meant is that scientifically we do not know the exact moment when something transitions from simply being a clump of cells that are dividing to being a human life. I don't know about you but I wouldn't consider 5 cells to be a human life. I wouldn't consider a zygote to be human life. At what point does it become a human life? I don't know but I do know that saying when human life starts is a matter of opinion.
I guess if you want to get all symanticy up in here he did specify fetus which is a particular phase in development.
"Child" or "baby" it is not. "Human life" it is, but so is a kidney. Durhurrrr semantics.
Drinking while prego is also hard as well though. iirc (I have never been prego) there's a point when you're allowed to have like a glass a month or something. I agree women drinking while prego is retarded, but it would be too hard to regulate.
Same with miscarriages, there are just to many variables involved, and the law sounds to vague to be a good thing.
No, archi is right. A fetus being a human life is a fact. How is that 'just an opinion', man?
I was going to post about how offended I am on behalf of all the women in Utah, but instead I'll just say that this shit is retarded.
Define life. Say exactly which trait a fetus holds that makes it a human life.
@Cadsuane I did a search for the thread really quick and couldn't find it maybe someone else remembers it and can have better luck looking. It started as a political thread maybe? It went on a really long time eventually was locked and had a TON of Neo and Plow arguing in circles.
Edit: I think it was this thread started by Firas: http://bluegartr.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79795 somewhere in the middle the topic changed to when life started.
A human fetus is genetically, pardon the redundancy, human. It is life, because it is an organism that contains all the characteristics commonly argued to constitute life, homeostatis, the ability to reproduce, metabolism, adaptability, growth. A plant is also life, same as an insect. There is no controversy here.
A fetus does not poses the ability to reproduce. Hell, it doesn't theoretically even have a gender until a certain stage of the pregnancy. It also does not have a conscious until a certain stage.
Sure, it is a life, but it isn't "alive". If you based it on traits like that, children until puberty wouldn't be alive either, as they do not poses the ability to reproduce yet.
What you mentioned is generally what's meant to be life. Yet, you probably have no problem killing insects or picking flowers. What makes a fetus so special that it can not be aborted? You didn't mention anything that makes it "human" and more important than insects.
edit beaten
It pretty much is fact. Once the sperm gets to the egg, it begins to replicate and if everything goes normal, a human child will pop about 9 months later. The major point here is that it is HUMAN cells, and since they replicate and do other stuff it is life. Hence you get human life.
Now when the fetus/human life gets rights or is considered a baby is opinion. That's why abortion has term limits and in my opinion partial-birth abortion shouldn't occur unless for to save the mother's life. Arguing whether abortion should be allowed or when the cutoff should be is totally different than saying a fetus is human life. What would you call a fetus than? Are you really trying to argue that you don't know the origins of where the fetus came from?
