To the people who argue that a fetus is not alive, have you ever picked up a biology book?

The abortion argument has apparently warped peoples understanding of science.

    It is a human cell?

Better stop masturbating, you're killing human cells. Better stop spitting, bleeding, clipping your fingernails, cutting your hair etc. too, because you're committing a murder.

Now when the fetus/human life gets rights or is considered a baby is opinion. That's why abortion has term limits and in my opinion partial-birth abortion shouldn't occur unless for to save the mother's life. Arguing whether abortion should be allowed or when the cutoff should be is totally different than saying a fetus is human life. What would you call a fetus than? Are you really trying to argue that you don't know the origins of where the fetus came from?
I would call a fetus a fetus. That's what its called. Only the anti-choice people connect it with a living human being. If you don't draw that connection, it is still a fetus, only not a living human being.

Yes, a fetus is alive, but so is a mosquito. I kill a lot of those.

That is not to say abortion is always ok, they become more and more human, and after a certain point abortion should not be offered. If a mother has been pregnant for 7 months and only then decide to do an abortion, its her own fault. She had the option to do that after a month if she would like to, and if she didn't notice she's pregnant until 7th month, she's stupid.

Sure, it is a life, but it isn't "alive". If you based it on traits like that, children until puberty wouldn't be alive either, as they do not poses the ability to reproduce yet.

What you mentioned is generally what's meant to be life. Yet, you probably have no problem killing insects or picking flowers. What makes a fetus so special that it can not be aborted? You didn't mention anything that makes it "human" and more important than insects.
Sorry for double post but people post quickly D:

See, people argue different things. Yea, I have no problems killing insects or picking flowers. Guess what, I know I'm ending it's life. What makes a human fetus human? I don't know, maybe that it came from two humans having sex makes it more human than insects. Anyway, you're a prime example of someone going into the debate of when it's okay to terminate human life when I was simply stating it is human life, and I stated that because someone said they don't really know what a fetus is. That is all, it is simply a statement. I never said a fetus can never be aborted and those who have abortions are evil and should die in a fire.

LOL, edit since uzor doesn't have reading comprehension.

Your blood will never turn into a baby. Sperm by itself will never turn into a baby. Not hard.

A plant is alive, is it okay to kill it? A dog is alive, it it okay to kill it? A human cell is alive, is it okay to kill it? A afghani child is alive, is it okay to kill it?

Whether a fetus is alive or not does not determine whether you can kill it or not, but it is alive nonetheless. Stop. Being. Dumbfucks.

Oh, and if you got all that from me saying HUMAN cells. Way to concentrate on a single word instead of the whole argument. I salute you sir.

Fetus is to a human as what

    a Caterpillar is a butterfly
    a maggot to a fly
    tadpole is to a frog

It's life but there are legitimate arguments as to when a fetus stops becoming a parasite and becomes its own entity.

@Benihana are you talking about the fetal stage or the entirety of pregnancy starting at conception? You keep referring to it as a fetus but then you say "once the sperm gets to the egg".

It is not a fetus until the fetal stage which starts at the 9th week.

Well, aren't all babies a type of parasite? They can't do anything for themselves and if left alone will just die. I'm assuming you mean when it can be taken out of the womb and still actually live though. Anyway, I was just stating it is human life. I thought it was pretty obvious.

I was thinking it was a joke because i (perhaps wrongly) recall you having a background in biology, therefore you would understand the absurdity of you bringing up an exception to the rule.

Sorry, I mean the whole pregnancy, so you are right I shouldn't use the term fetus. Most people use it interchangeably. Once again, I'm not arguing when it is or not okay to have an abortion. That's way beyond what I'm talking about.

Also just to go back on topic for a second
I do think that proposed law makes no sense and is an embarrassment. It is worded way too vaguely and well. there's so much wrong with it and so little time.

    You are right.

@Benihana well that is a very important distinction to make and I don't really think someone who uses the term fetus interchangeably with the entire pregnancy has any merit on deciding when something is biologically alive or not. Make sure you use your terms correctly or at least understand the different stages of development before getting into a discussion about it. The fetal stage and consequently the term fetus is a very specific stage in development. Before that is Zygote, Blastocyst, and Embryo. Do you think those are Human Life?

Reason I mentioned blood is because you mentioned a human cell. A sperm having bonded with an egg does not automatically make it a human being. It is one cell.

You can't say "a HUMAN cell" in an argument about abortion. Humans have a lot of cells. That alone doesn't make it qualify as a human baby. What exactly makes it a human baby? Human cell is not one of them.

My point is you can't say abortion is wrong because it is a living human baby. No one seem to be able to put their finger on what a 2-week old fetus have that makes it qualify as a human being that should be spared. Everyone I've talked to compares it to murder. When you perform an abortion on a 2-week old baby, you don't really kill it. It hasn't had a chance to experience life or make any real connections to other people. You're not really robbing it of what life has to offer, as it has not had a life yet. When you murder someone, you tear it away from everyone he knows and that knows him. All of the connections to living people he's made. You don't only hurt him, you hurt everyone around him. A fetus does not have connections beyond his parents, and as such, it should be up to the parents whether or not they want to abort it.

Life for me is all of the connections and and experiences you've made/had. An unborn baby has none.

Life begins at conception. Many of those lives are ended within the first month, as they fail to implant and are flushed out in the menses. Many more successfully implant, but die to miscarriage in the next few months. Some die from intentional extraction (i.e. abortion), and some of these lives are born.

No matter which route it takes, they're all technically "human life". The argument is when said life is protected by the law, and which laws protect it at certain points in development.

I understand that people don't like to think of abortion as "ending a human life" because that sounds inhumane - but human lives are ended naturally as much if not moreso then they are successfully born regardless. if you don't want to end human lives, don't have sex ever - you're looking at a large percentage of conceived human lives dying before they ever get a chance to be born.

Otherwise re-wrap your head around the reality that embryos, fetuses, and all the rest of the terms used to describe what occurs when a sperm successfully fertilizes an egg as "life", and then start to ask the real questions that need to be discussed.

Okay so when does it actually become human life? I know my whole argument went over your head because I never talked about when it becomes a baby, and I mentioned abortion in passing. If you don't think a baby being being born and then killed shortly after because you don't want it could possibly be wrong, that's totally opinion and won't waste time arguing that.

I find it funny that trading a game to gamestop is horrible because it was potentially worth more if I sold it on ebay, but aborting a fetus is a-ok.
