    Wireless N recommendation

    Ok,

Did a search on the boards for Wireless N discussions without much luck. I just moved into my new house and want to upgrade my wireless setup to N. Some questions:

    1. Is a dual band (2.4 and 5) router a big improvement over a non-dual band router?
    2. If it is, what is a good dual band router? I have found these two have the most positive reviews:
    Netgear: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...netgear%203700
    Linksys: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-296-_-Product

Both have very up and down reviews, especially as you move from site to site. $170 is a lot to spend on such uncertainty.

    3. If dual band isn't really important, what router would you recommend?

Currently own a PS3, Wii and desktop. Will be purchasing a gaming laptop soon and I am looking at getting a roommate who will be on wireless too.

I can't answer the tech side of it, but I got the netgear 3700 after christmas last year, and I love it. I run the wii, roku, and 3 laptops off of it. I can't say how good the N range is on it, as the only N devices are in the basement with it, but the G range is great, can use netbook on the front porch or side porch with no problem. I don't have a huge house but its not a little shack either. I do not have much experience with other routers, but when i turned everything on when I first tested it, streamed hd video on 3 laptops, hd roku, mario kart on wii online, ran the slingbox and desktop computer that are hard wired to it and there was no slow down at all. And that made the nerd in me happy.

Also, I plugged in a usb hard drive for network storage, that feature is pretty cool, and the guest network. I set mine up with an easy to remember password for any guests that come over and need to use their own laptops.

Thats my two cents. But that is without any specific technical expertise, just my experience with the router.

What about internal cards? I need a good N receiver for my new tower...
