So it was suggested to me, given my total lack of ability to decide this for myself, that I should ask this here.
I haven't played in two years. I'm a little bored with WoW and reactivated FFXI for old times' sake. Before I left, I had seven jobs at 75 and one fairly close: WHM, BLM, RDM, BRD, THF, MNK, PLD, and SAM. Now that I'm back, after two years of focusing on my priest in WoW, it's rubbed off on me; I've always been a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none kind of girl, and now I want to pick one and focus.
None of my jobs are particularly well geared. I mean, I have decent stuff, like a couple pieces of Goliard, the occasional AF+1, a Sky piece here and there, and decent AH or AH-equivalent things, but they're all scattered around random different jobs; Shura body, Koenig head, Goliard feet, wtfever. I also don't really have anything merited out. I did some H2H and STR when I was in love with monk, some sword and shield for leveling paladin, and some enfeebling for leveling RDM, but nothing is even halfway to capped out. I'm also not ruling out the possibility of leveling something entirely new to give myself the main job I can really be satisfied with.
What I want:
I'd like to shy away from mages in general, although I know RDM fits many of the other criteria here. Maybe I just suck, but there's too little margin for error in my experience.
I don't want to be squishy. I prefer to be capable of doing things alone or in duo most of the time (I'm married, he plays too [Toxictaru], usually as NIN/DNC or SAM, and having been away from the game for two years, I have no other friends to do things with). I was looking at BST, but it gets kinda screwed if there aren't suitable pets around. I also liked MNK way back when, but I remember it was pretty terrible if I got unlucky with shadows and Chakra was down. I've heard neat things about PLD/RDM. I was also thinking of DRG (mage subs are all leveled for soloing), but I just don't know.
I want whatever I choose to be desirable in a group setting in case I ever go back to doing a lot of endgame-type things around here. Toxictaru suggests that you guys are going to look at "I want to be able to solo" and say I should gear out Thief, but... well, I don't know if times have changed at all, but I remember Thief being a one-per-LS kind of deal.
Enjoyability is important. While nothing in this game is quite as dynamic as I've grown used to, standing around waiting for someone to need Haste makes me hate the world.Doing my first Dynamis in two years as WHM last night made me remember this. I actually get so bored that I start playing very, very poorly. This is also where RDM really starts to break down for me. Let's be honest, they're tough as nails, but they bore mobs to death more than they actually kill things. XD I was almost thinking of leveling RNG--I've got Vali's Bow laying around, it was what I had planned as my next project before I quit--but I haven't heard many stories of how awesome RNG solo play is, heh.
I don't mind leveling new subs, but bonus points for those subs not being mage jobs. The only things I don't have at 37+ are DRK, BST, DRG, and the five most recent jobs. And yes, I know they'll need to go to 40 shortly.
I don't know. I've got the three addon packs waiting to be played through and have rewards chosen--they could go a long way toward bumping up whatever job I choose--and I'm looking at the impending cap raise thinking "how the hell am I gonna choose what to level first?" I realize "Derp derp what job shud I play" is not the kind of question you guys look to entertain around here, but I think my situation is different enough to warrant asking for advice.
Thanks very much in advance.![]()
Dancer, no joke you'll. Love it
I understand the first two hits of a multi-hit weaponskill can be a double attack. First, can they both simultaneously be one, and will it be considered an extra 2 hits for great extra damage? Someone I know insists that it'll just replace any hits that missed, or have no effect at all other than TP return.
I ask because I finally unlocked sea and got brutal earring, and I'm curious about its use for multihit weaponskills.
Azoth/Blau is another acceptable combination untill you get Ra/Ex daggers.
Alternatively you could look at Blau/Miser+1
D tends to be slightly stronger than Evis, but Raen Ryong got that pretty much right. People say "Solo DE set" more than solo Evis sets because outside of capped dDex things (anything outside of colibri really)
Even so, the damage from either will be pretty similar.
Personally I only ever use Evisceration if I'm in a PT with a Sam and I see them use Gekko, because the chance of a darkness SC for an extra 1k is pretty damn nice.
As for subs, RR is again right with /War vs /Nin.
You could also look at /Mnk. It's our strongest spike damage sub, if DoT doesn't matter and you're only running in to WS (boost till 999Att (can do this with mithkabobs) then SAWS).
The damage boost from Souleater will never be worth the HP you lose or the benefits from other subs 99% of the time. SEDE will drop you from full HP to about 200ish. It's damage increase is large obviously but it's just impractical.
Any good situational gear for MNK recently added that I may have missed? I've recently come back from a long break, and with the level cap increasing, I am going to focus on one job exclusively.
My MNK is already pretty decked out - but I keep finding little improvements and side-grades which free up gil, and I'm sure I'm missing more...
My main TP set includes full Usukane, Black Belt, Black Tathlum, Kusha & Lava's Rings (just got), Brutal, Etheral, Amemet +1, Faith Torque and Destroyers.
For WS, I swap in Anwig Salade and Virtuoso Belt (just got today).
For situational weapons, Hades and Birdbanes (just got).
I have Genbu's Kabuto, Medieval Collar, AF+1 body, relic hands, 2x VIT+5 rings, Melee Cape, Warwolf Belt, Kensei Sitabaki and Power Sandals for Chakra.
I've been trying to get Kyoshu Kyahan for the 20 acc/attack on WS every five minutes... other than that - are there any good situational pieces worth going after that I may have missed?
I have full AF+1 and full relic armor. No Cuchulain's Mantle - but I have a Toreador's Ring on AH... once that sells, I can afford it.
I'm not especially interested in remaking a Chi Blast build - and I don't find the VIT+1 earrings to be worth the inventory slot.
Sorc ring activation. Check my math please?
75 Taru blm/rdm with 772 HP
Macro to force HP down:
Zenith Hands
Grip
Ixion Cape
Serket
Ether Ring
Black Cote
That's 195 HP
772-195 = 577 HP = 74.74%
772*.75 = 579 HP
Swap Sorc ring, Tamas and genie weskit back in on nuke macro.
Makes my HP at time of nuke 577/682.
Sorc ring should proc?
quick question about WAR WS set:
hauberk+1 vs hecatomb body
This might actually be a mistake over what you had before (guessing Rajas/Tor).Originally Posted by Francisco
Toreador and Ulthalam's Ring. I have a Rajas, but always viewed it as more of a 2H ring... not as good for MNK as it is for SAM, DRG, WAR, etc...
Before: 11 ACC, 4 Attack
After: 12 ACC, 6 Attack, Gil
Gil is set for a Cuchulain's Mantle, but those three slots seem like the most debatable for MNK.
Rajas/Toreador/Cuchulain's
STR+9 DEX+9 Accuracy +12 Store TP +5
Rajas/Toreador/Foragers
STR+9 DEX+5 Accuracy +7 Attack +15 Store TP +5
Lava's/Kusha's/Cuchulain's
STR+4 DEX+4 Accuracy +17 Attack +6
Lava's/Kusha's/Foragers
STR+3 Accuracy +12 Attack +21
Toreador x2/Cuchulain's
STR+4 DEX+4 Accuracy +19
Toreador x2/Foragers
STR+3 Accuracy +14 Attack +15
Rajas is actually the best ring for most any situation, only situation it's not is when you don't own one. Kusha/Lava's aren't really good for anything unless you don't have sea and don't have gil to own 2 Toreador's <.<
Rajas/Tore is only 2.5acc under K/L and the 5 Store TP almost always shaves a hit off to 100% TP.
