Yes it's permanent. Since you're doing it with a friend it's pretty simple (2 PSN/Steam accounts). Link your PSN to your Steam and redeem your free copy, then your friend links his PSN to his Steam, add each other as friends and play.
They cant permanently link a game to 1 PS3, so as long as you give yourself the PC copy and have 2 separate PSN/Steam accounts it should work.

Play portal2 on ps3 under your Steam account. Use PC steam key on your steam account. Give your friend portal2 ps3 disc. Your friend needs a steam account to play cross console afaik.

I may be wrong, and I could be wrong, but I think you can't actually have 2 people playing that way.
the Steam game and the PS3 game are linked and act as the very same game. So while it would work in giving your friend a free copy of Portal 2, it's the same exact copy that you're just sharing.

You're wrong. There is no way for the PS3 to tell that the physical bluray you used to unlock the PC version, is the same copy you gave your friend to play on PS3

Totally late on this, but I don't care. I just finished playing though it and... hory chit. I am still blown away by how exciting, immersive, and downright funny the entire thing was. Game of 2012 for me. I expected no less. I heard complaints about length... huh? It was so much beefier than 1. Very substantial for a puzzle game.


Actually, I was really hoping for a timeline tie-in with Half Life 2: Episode 3. I immediately figured the whole stasis sleep for "9999999999" was their (pretty simple) excuse for them to finally bring the stories to a point where they could potentially intertwine. I was half expecting to see City 17 on the horizon in the ending... or portals in the sky and such. All we got was a Black Mesa reference made by Cave Johnson sometime in the 1970's. (edit: oh shit and the Borealis dock...)


Also, what was the fat turret from? I noticed the Animal King one from the video feed towards the beginning, and I swear I've spotted the fat turret somewhere before but I can't remember where.

I'm not annoyed, but I was surprised not to see any. Apparently, there's a reference to it somewhere, but it's some sort of hidden easter egg graffiti I think (oh yeah, I remember, the door as posted blow me)... I think they tried to switch from cake to potatoes.

At some point early in the game (I think just after GLaDOS revives, during the "cleaning phase"), you finish a test chamber and enter the elevator room beyond. An elevator is already there, but it leaves right after you enter the room. The fat turret is riding in that elevator.

When i first played the original Portal, i thought it was very well done, but it lacked actually challenging levels and was easy to complete. So i hoped Portal 2 would live up to expectations. Then when i recieved it from gamefly, i put in an started playing. On about the 10th level it already had me thinking. It was a very challenging game. Portal 2 is definetly better than the first.
