Loved that about the game as well. Especially the Wheatley chambers. They really strained your brain until you figured out how simple they really were. lol

I'm confused by this because Portal 1 was a lot harder than Portal 2.

Yeah I can't tell who is being serious or not here... whilst Portal 1 wasn't hard by any means, Portal 2 is ridiculously easy compared to it. The grand majority of the chambers in the game consist of looking for that one little bit of white wall you can actually shoot a portal on and then the puzzle is practically solved for you from there. The ruined test chamber aesthetics look great but... it made for some shitty puzzlan.

The only challenge is playing both of them with a touch pad, fuck you all!

Yeeeeah. Portal 1 was harder than 2, though I enjoyed 2 a ton.

Ehh. You could get through a lot of puzzles faster that way but it wasn't explicitly necessary. The only puzzle where you needed a pretty quick reaction was uh...18, I think; where you had to throw yourself over the top of an emancipation grid at the top of a high glass wall. The rest gave you like 8-9 seconds of hang time or a place you could rest between each step.

I'm dl'ing portal 1 to play it again but I remember there being some sort of map pack expansion thing (may have been fan made) but I can't remember the name of it. Googling brings up a ton of different maps so I can't find it.

i just replayed portal 1 after beating 2, and i'm wondering if people saying portal 1 was easier did exactly that... i flew through portal 1 after not touching it for at least 3 years, but there's no way #1 was easier when it was new compared to #2... much shorter yes, but not easier. there are a few rooms where yes there are timers (the red buttons opening 'blast doors' combined with the power sphere thing) and a few jumps that have to be made or you're dead. i don't think i died once in #2 when it wasn't on purpose to see some of the background ("the wheatley levels"), and i wasn't stuck that long on any of the rooms except for near the end, which did end up being pretty simple once you stopped over-thinking them. i'm not saying #1 was better in any way though, i'd trade "slightly more challenge" for pretty much everything else about #2 being an improvement, and will probably end up as my favorite game out in 2011, like many other people on here...

Advanced map packs are included with newer version of portal 1 on steam. and by "newer" I mean from way back when they gave away portal for free to anyone on steam. So at least 2 years ago?

Plenty of challenge in co-op, but you don't really sense it because you're laughing your ass off every time you snuff your partner, or yourself, or both of you. Also two minds + voice chat.

I only played a smidgen of HL1, is Aperture Science(or Cave Johnson rather) implying that Black Mesa stole some of Aperture technology?

from what i got out of it (and it's been a very long time since i played HL1 & 2, if they are even tied in that close so far...) black mesa was more of a competitor, which set Cave off, and got them to start making GLaDOS & the other technology (the gels, etc.) you see in the Portals. i could be very very wrong though. and now i think i might start a new HL2 game

edit: it looks like there's a lot more tying the two series together than i realized - http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Aperture_Science

Cave just says it outright I think, but he's unable to do anything about it because he's ultimately a crap businessman with no sense on how to market his products (sup Repulsion Gel as a food additive)

If it hasn't been said. Portal 2 DLC is coming in summer.

Ultimately, the only thing so far tying the Portal series to the Half Life series is the mention of the Black Mesa/Aperture competition in teleportation/portal technology and the disappearance/rediscovery of an Aperture research ship, the Borealis, that apparently housed something immensely powerful/dangerous. The Combine want it for unknown reasons, Eli thinks it should be destroyed, and Kleiner/Mossman think it could be used against the Combine.

I think the assumption being made at this point is that while the surviving Black Mesa crew has managed to get local teleportation technology functioning to aid the Resistance, Aperture's Borealis may house perfected inter-dimensional travel technology which, if found by the Combine on the Borealis, would allow the Combine to travel between their world and Earth without needing massive amounts of energy to cause the overly-destructive portal storms.

Also, there are image files that can be found with two of the unnamed Black Mesa scientists posing in front of Aperture's Borealis ship, hinting to the possibility that they leaked Black Mesa's secrets to Aperture, possibly involving their research on Xen.

    I think?
