Getting my first tattoo

I went to both a Catholic elementary/high school, and spoke to a many priest/minister about this such issue (I am atheist, just to get my bias out of the way); and every one said tattoos/piercings were not against Christianity.

Remember, the "laws" of the Bible (such as the one you've quoted) are pretext for a specific time period relating to their cultural norms. You may certainly not interpret those same rules as "God's word" in this year and age.

But to defend it that way, would be to say and validate, that a majority of the bibles(today) text can't be interpreted as 'god's word' period, who believes in shit like water>wine,parting rivers, and reraising in todays day? Old or new text its apart of the bibles' just cause the majority of (todays) people don't take it word for word, other wise...faggots should be hung.(and who believes that?) Yea i took elementary example's but they're apart of the text, at one time or another.

Can we make this thread more about tattoos and less about jesus, gay, and italy?

I have been meaning to get something done for my wife, but I can't decide between two choices:

I have always liked the old school naked-lady type (think Sailor Jerry) tattoos, the ones that look like pin-up girls. I want one with my wife's name, only customized a bit to look more like her (high heels, short skirt, tattoos, eyeliner, something like that). So that the girl looks less old fashioned and more modern, but still has the same inspiration. And not naked, but close.

At the same time, I also think it would be funny to get a big ball and chain, with her name on the ball. I could do some interesting/cool-looking things with the chain, and it would be hilarious.

So I'm torn. Suggestions welcome.
