Am I the only one who loved 'A Serious Man'? That movie had a great ending too. I'm a big fan of The Hurt Locker though, glad they won. Jeff Bridges is great... still have to see Crazy Heart though >.>, and I'm glad Bullock got a statue.

As much as I love the Hurt Locker there were a few scenes that were just so god damn silly it took away from the overall picture for me. That being said I'm not disappointed to see it win best picture; I wanted that or Inglorious Basterds to win.
Given the choice between a sci-fi film with next to nothing original save the visuals and SERIOUS POLITICAL MESSAGE, you can guess where the award goes.
Pretty much panned out as I expected- Hurt Locker got the best pic, Avatar got a lot of the technical ones, though I was happy to see Star Trek actually pulled an award out of all that. Pleasant surprise.
I really wanted Inglorious Basterds to win picture of the year as well. While I liked Hurt Locker, I though IB was overall a better picture as a whole.
I can't quite put my finger on it but IB just seemed to be missing something for me.
IB and Serious Man were both lacking a certain something that tarantino/coen brothers other movies had (for me IB was just too long in parts, and did not focus enough on the titular characters). I just finished a serious man and just throughout for a book of job parable his life wasnt THAT awful considering Job's whole family was killed and it wasnt nearly as funny as alot of their better movies.
Also lol @ at IB/avatar being nominated for best editing. 2.5+ hour movies being well edited seems slightly counter intuitive
I think IB is probably the best Tarantino movie.
They should have focused more on the Basterds and Col. Landa then the corny jew lady and her obsessed nazi stalker. I think that's what ultimately hurt the movie.
What hurts Inglorious Basterds for me was the scene with Mike Myers. Could have saved 10 minutes right there. Oscar lost.
I also thought they showed the worse clips for Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds.. they pretty much put in all the clips when he was in full nazi uniform.. there were other scenes that better highlighted his wonderful performance.
I couldn't stand that movie, (A Serious Man). It wasn't funny, dramatic, or anything and almost every character annoyed me.
As for the Hurt Locker, it was good but not great. Most of the scenes felt the same, where it was some sort of intense stand off for 20 minutes followed by someone dying or being injured. Personally, I'd rather have seen the award go to Inglourious Basterds.
lol @ The Hurt Locker being a better movie than Up in the Air .. just no
most performances in The Hurt locker were downright silly at times at least everyone in Up in the Air could act
I must have been the only one pleased with all of the wins. I enjoyed the dance filler, too! The Up one was cute.
I am happy with the end results, I am just upset about the minimal love for inglorious basterds and District 9.
The thing about the scene with Mike Myers is that I think Tarantino didn't want to completely remove it as it had that Churchhill actor. Apparently Taratino specifically asked him to play the part cause he's one of those old not well know actors that Taratino loves so much. That scene was already cut down to the point where we get like one shot of him he couldn't just scrap it altogether. Personally the movie never felt too long.
just felt that way to me
Up In The Air seemed to be the best mixture of story, acting, tempo, etc etc, but one by one in each individual category it may not stand out as much as the others. So in that sense it felt like the movie was up against a bunch of other movies combined and ended up with nothing cuz it got ganged up on
anyway, just ranting
A little late, but:
About 30% of the creation of the movie dealt with actual "cinematography", and while it can be argued that even the CGI team can be considered part of that group, the CGI team has full control over lighting and camera (if I recall, the DP doesn't have any say whatsoever in this team).
Honestly the German foreign film was supposed to have the best cinematography, but I guess it's not allowed to be nominated? Anyway, any other nomination was more deserving than Avatar's.
Idk if anyone posted this yet, but I've been seeing it all over the internet lool. Samuel L Jackson was giving a "hater" look after Monique gave her acceptance speech at the show, and then he turns his eyes and mouth and gives this "oops" or "ooooh" look at some camera I think, because the cameras caught him hating:

Oh yeah man, this guy needs to win an Academy Award, better yet, get nominated at least lol, he's like the highest grossing actor in the world right now...
except he plays the same character in all of them? And pretty sure he was nominated for A Time to Kill. Mo'nique played her role really well and deserved it considering her previous roles as an actress.
It's titanss and vajra, no point in arguing, they have the superior strength of irrationality on their side.
