I actually went today and got a new galant setup. Take a look through the hardforum ikea thread for some ideas, it's what I did and I was sold: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1341821 There is like a million ways to configure galants, such a fantastic model, but you have to be willing to spend 200-300. ALWAYS GO TO THE IKEA STORE ITSELF. They charge like 100$ for shipping, and there is usually sales in the store. My galant top which was supposed to be 110 was only 50, etc. It's well worth the hour drive that it is for most people to Ikea's.

For the record I go through computer desks like candy. I've had like 10 different models from staples, and am currently using a selfmade DIY door desk which is starting to turn into a money sink lol. The galant will not get replaced, only added to and re-customized depending on shape of the room if needed.

That looks ultra badass, dude. I have one of those older Home Depot sort of desks with the two shelves up top that are split in half. Looks like one you'd find in a living room or someshit, you know? The one you have.. that's what I want. So much damn room in that thing! Especially for the keyboard/mouse it seems. And I wanna get a desk where I could move my whole Tower setup out from underneath this desk since it's sort of an alcove underneath and doesn't get enough airflow IMO.

Galants have like 5million combinations, it's like legos.

The main desk is the part in the corner, I added that extension on the left. Like I said, check that thread on hardforum. You can have a straight desk, straight with rounded edges,an L, a U, a giant fucking circle around your room lol, anything. They arent cheap though, think that cost me around 250. But I have a 400$ chair only made sense to spend more than 50 on a desk. I look at it as an investment, if I move my room around, get a new place etc and need the desk to do something different I can get different extensions and move it wherever. It's amazingly strong and sturdy, great materials.

That thread is where I got my idea from, that and I needed to fit it inbetween a tv on the right and a window on the left. But like said, I'm nowhere near done customizing it. The way those people have theirs setup on that forum, with bookshelf speakers, 3x1 portrait monitors, mmmmm.

Fuck wow yeah that is pretty nice. Regret not having anywhere for a corner desk to go, I'd love the extra space. Mine has shelves above the desk area but it's not really great for things I want to have access to often.

There are plenty of ways to set it up so that its not a corner desk. There are several straight pieces.

The only problem with ikea is that its over an hour drive for me, and they charge like 100+ for shipping, so I'm forced to go there.

This is what I'm doing next. They make tiny legs so I can actually use that shelf as a stand and put my monitors on it, and put stuff underneath it. My sister wants one just like it to put above her bed for when she reads:

    http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1731/roomr.jpg

This guy has the little legs, but instead of using a shelf, hes using galant extension pieces for the monitors:

Yeah, I dunno if I would have room for a L-shaped desk, which sucks dick. I have these bureau-like desk.. and I do not like it. Not enough space for my tastes.

Also god damn at the chair. My chair was like.. 100$ It was one of those 'executive' chairs, lol. Comfy though! Still.. why was yours 400?

also, you need to build me an Intel setup.

Ah damn, the shelf on the wall you mean? That's gonna be awesome. Also, what sort of speaker setup do you have going up there?

Mine was 400 cause its a herman miller Aeron. Best purchase I've ever made. Yes, the shelf on the wall, I want to use that as a monitor stand with the little legs like I put in the 2nd image with the red walls.

Currently my 2.1 speakers are shitty... one day, when I'm awesome enough, I want to get some real bookshelf speakers/monitors and an amp.

edit: speakers like this would be nice

The desk I posted with the yellow speakers is an Ikea Fredrik i believe. Not customizable like a galant, but I think the shelves can be moved up and down it to wherever you want.

The yellow one.. that the one with the shelf you were talking about?

Either way, all four desk configs you posted have all looked pretty fucking amazing.

So I bought my rig last night, should be here in a few days :
AMD Six Core 4.0GHz Overclocked Barebone PC -
    ASUS M4A89GTD PRO Mobo,
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T,
    8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM,
    Cooler Master HAF 922 Chassis,
    ULTRA 750W PSU,
    CoolIT ECO A.L.C. Liquid Cooling,
    GeForce GTX 460 DirectCU Video Card - 1024MB ,
    Seagate ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green Hard Drive - 2TB, 5900 RPM, 64MB, SATA-6Gb/s

Bought the barebone kit from tigerdirect and bought a reasonable graphics card so that I can get another one this summer for an upgrade. I know I'll have to reduce the overclocking of the RAM, since there are some issues with it apparently, but from what I've tried building/combining since I posted here in the last week, it looks like a pretty good deal. Cost me 1150$ shipping and taxes included and since I got a brand new 23' screen as a gift it turned out to be relatively affordable.

Thoughts/comments on the build (so i can weep if I spent 1200 bucks on a shit build)?

Typically "green" hard drives tend to be slower than non-greens, but you may or may not ever notice. Is the system already built and tested? If not, don't be surprised if you have some stability issues trying to get 4ghz. Mine gets really picky past 3.9 and needs lots of juice/runs hot to make 4 (with an H50).
