So the 660 is about the same price as the 7870, I see.

Depends on your budget. Could cost as little as ~$300 or as much as $1k+, depending on resolution and the panel type.

Though, 32" is kind of an odd specification. Most bigger monitors fall at the 30" or 27" range; not common to see many 32" monitors from what I've seen. So I'd probably opt for one of those two smaller sizes, if you're looking for a bigger monitor.

I wouldn't recommend getting anything less than a 2560x1440 resolution at those sizes though, to start. You can find some 1920x1080 monitors at that size, and they're definitely more affordable than the alternative, but the ultimate result ends up being a more stretched out, less-detailed picture on a big screen. If you really want a 1920x1080 monitor, then you're just better off getting a 24" or smaller monitor as far as the picture goes.

As far as the panel type, it pretty much will be either between an IPS or TN monitor. TN monitors are what 90% of the monitors are, which is a cheaper panel that has a high refresh rate and good quality. IPS is much more expensive, but in turn has a higher quality picture (better color ranges/quality), and a significantly better viewing angle (which becomes more important as the screen size gets bigger... a large TN monitor, at a close viewing distance, can make part of the screen always appear a bit shaded/dull/drowned-out). Trade-off being of course the price, and a slightly higher refresh rate, which usually isn't big enough to make a difference.

A popular, affordable IPS monitor is this one (as an example):

Though, that's also a 24" monitor. But probably the best quality deal you'll find.

I just recently bought this. It's not the best, but i doubt you'll find anything better for less than 2.5-3x the price.

Wouldn't https://blackfriday.bestbuy.com/tv+a...0p++60hz++hdtv be better than that option? Certainly price-wise? Granted, it's a Black Friday deal, but I can assure you it won't be the first deal to go. I got a 24" Dynex 1080p which I use as my monitor for $80 last year on black friday. Actually considering going for that this year...

Better? Not even close. That's a piece of garbage. Cheaper? Why yes, but you get what you pay for.

Not compared to yours, but to Rkenshin's, which was 24" at 1920x1200, mine is 26" at 1920x1080 for 1/3 the price. I don't think there is a significant difference between x1200 and x1080, but maybe I'm missing something here.

Yours is a TN tv. It's shit tier. Which is fine, if that's what you want, but probably not what vandole had in mind.

As opposed to the Dell I linked? It's cheaper, yeah, but they don't compare at all in quality.

Of course though, this again all depends on what is more important to you and your budget. If you can afford it, the Dell is definitely the better choice. But if you're perfectly happy with the picture of the TV, and would rather save the money, then that works too. A lot of it is personal opinion and your situation.

As a follow up on that topic, there are a few notes/cons to keep in mind with opting to use a TV over a traditional monitor for your PC.

First, of course, make sure that your PC can connect to the TV. Not all TVs (particularly with cheaper sets) have a DVI or VGA input. This of course is becoming less of an issue with HDMI being standard on most graphic cards and TVs generally having broad connectivity options, but still worth keeping in mind.

Second, are the differences in the response rates. Monitors typically have much lower response rates than TVs (2ms on most monitors, ~6-8+ on many TVs iirc), which can be important if you plan to do any fast-paced gaming. Typically it's tough to find out what the response rate is on a TV as well, which can be a bit of a pain when shopping. This is also a disadvantage of IPS monitors, in that their response rates are usually ~4-6ms; which is bordering on potentially being a problem for some. But how big of a disadvantage that is again depends on how you plan to use it, and what matters most to you. Otherwise, you likely couldn't ever tell the difference.

Third, the pixel densities/resolutions will again tend to be much higher with monitors; making for a much more clear, detailed picture when viewing up close. Monitors are simply designed to be viewed from up close, where as TVs are designed to be viewed from further away.

All of that said, again, it's ultimately up to you. Plenty of people still opt to and even prefer using a TV over a monitor, with the main advantages simply being price and the dual functionality. And if none of the issues above matter to you, then by all means go for it. But just know that there are good reasons as to why the TVs are cheaper.

Would that be a good choice to go with, or do you think the 7ms response time would impact gaming a bit too much? Or should I wait to find one with a higher resolution than that one?

I'd probably be more concerned about 1080p at 27" than the response time. 7 ms is right around what you're going to get with an ips anyway.

Dell U2412M is $280, pretty good deal at that price. 24" instead of 27" but as hey mention 1080p @ 27" is kinda meh, 1920x1200 with good stock stand and has DP connector (really nice to have when getting multiple monitor).

Response times are only part of the story as well, input delay can mean that the overall lag could be more on a 2ms panel than a 8ms one.

That ^ is the better option, if you really want to go that route. I'd definitely have to recommend getting one of the korean monitors though, if you're going to spend about the same amount anyway.

I've been absolutely loving my U2412M if you want first hand opinions. Been using it for youtube, anime, forums, dayz, tf2, lolcoding in emacs and etc. Viewing angles are fabulous and colors are vibrant.

If you live near a Microcenter they have the 3770k for $229.99 which is $10 more than the 3570k and $70 less than Newegg
