Is there a reason why the HP Probook 650 G1 can be bought at such drastically different prices online? I just snagged one for $275 on eBay after casually browsing for a replacement laptop. The deal seems too good to be true, but the seller has excellent feedback and has sold a few of these laptops already. I noticed when searching for the sold history of these laptops, they often go for anywhere from $250 to $800 used, but many of them are $400 or under.

I didn't see any info after Google-fu'ing for feedback on this model that would otherwise be a red flag for "too good to be true." Did I actually #win on eBay like a bum who hit the $200 scratch-off lottery?

Bulk resellers are the cause. I work for one currently where see sell anything from Desktops to Servers and Racks. The same unit can be priced differently depending what you put in it or us just trying to get rid of them.
You got a pretty good deal on it though.

The overall size is small and doesn't take up much space but the screen size is spot on. Very clear and plays 1080p smoothly with no hiccups.
The built-in speakers are beyond trash. They are on the back but its sounds as though it's mono.

Nice! Sounds like a great value 144hz monitor if fps is more important than resolution for the budget oriented! And I agree about possibly a rating system. Ratings on Newegg, Amazon, etc are usually flooded with people that have no idea what they're doing or trolls looking to bash a product because it's not their favorite brand. I was also thinking of for the pc advice thread possibly having a template to use. For instance, one question that is very important for any build is the location of the person due to having a Frys or Micro Center available. Maybe it's something I'll work on or the powers that be can put together.

Reading reviews for Mobos and Graphics cards is a fucking waste of time nowadays. So many computer illiterate folks building their first PCs who tank ratings and you can never read enough useful/detailed feedback to guesstimate whether a certain manufacturer is trash or not.

With that said, I'm currently trying to flip the HP laptop that I bought earlier. I have it listed for $450 w/ shipping right now on ebay, it's actually holding me back from upgrading my rig, so if anyone needs a like-new laptop, I'm willing to let it go for $400. For the case I'd say it really depends how the airflow is and what other components you're using. For instance, if you're only using say a 750ti for a gpu then it's not a huge deal. But for a rig like mine (2x290x) you definitely want to make sure you can have the right airflow and proper cooling/fans.
