Have any of you ever deposited these AmEx rebate cards into your bank account before? I'm actually holding off my computer build because $60 worth of the rebates are in the form of these prepaid cards, which I despise because it's divided up and whenever I buy anything my purchases are made in bulk.

I always use my rebate cards for gas and groceries. Just as good as putting it in the bank!

Some banks do not take American Express (Wells Fargo). Some of these rebate cards are also super finicky. I had trouble depositing a $100 visa rebate card I got with contact lenses.

I basically put them into Amazon gift cards and redeemed them. Not terrible, but also not ideal.

That's not a bad idea, if worse comes to worse. It looks like my bank, BoA, issues AmEx credit cards, so that makes me feel better about it.

I'm going to double-check all the ToS on parts with rebate cards, but at end of the day, this new PC will end up only costing me $150-200 after craigslisting my old rig. Not a lot of competition for budget gaming PC builds in the bay area lol

I'll sometimes buy myself an amazon gift card with a rebate card because I know I'll use that and no worries about any stipulations on the rebate card. Even if you use it for something else first, it's great because you can buy the Amazon card for any random amount to finish it off.

If anyone is in need of a cheap case, Newegg has the Zalman Z5 for $11.24 after rebate when using promo code AFEX15914 at checkout. I've used Zalman cases a few times and for the price it's a great value.

Pulled the trigger on my new computer build today after my mobo and CPU dropped about $20 together. The new LG monitors apparently are shit on color range, unlike the one I have, so I went with a BenQ that is highly rated on that TFT review website. Here's the final tally:

    1 x ($209.99) BenQ GW2760HS Black 27" 4ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor VA Panel 300 cd/m2 DC 20,000,000:1 (3000:1) Built-in Speakers
    $209.99

    1 x ($204.99) PowerColor PCS+ Radeon R9 380 AXR9 380 4GBD5-PPDHE 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support ATX Video Card
    $204.99

    1 x ($67.99) ASRock H97M Pro4 LGA 1150 Intel H97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
    $67.99

    1 x ($64.99) SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
    $64.99

    1 x ($52.99) Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
    $52.99

    1 x ($41.99) G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL
    $41.99

    1 x ($35.99) DIYPC Zondda-O Black USB 3.0 ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case with 3 x Orange Fans (1 x 140mm LED Fan x side, 1x120mm LED Fan x front, 1 x 120mm fan x rear)
    $35.99

    1 x ($29.99) PowerColor Gift - ULTRA'GO Mini Power Station (Black Color)
    $29.99

    1 x (-$29.99) DISCOUNT FOR AUTOADD #145831
    -$29.99

    Subtotal: $678.93
    Tax: $0.00
    Shipping and Handling: $17.39
    Total Amount: $696.32
Add in $173 for a i5 4460 on Superbiz and the R380 has a $20 rebate card. I'm pretty set back at making such a large purchase, but I'm confident I'll be able to get $500-600 off my old PC. My 1-2 week of OCD reign has ended lol

I think I have some zip ties to make it fairly respectable. I didn't even know what a modular PSU was until this week lol I always assumed everyone hid their cables better and used better cases whenever I saw pics of pimped-out builds.

I will upload pics of the old PC, too, so we can all appreciate the transition of this broke ass gamer.

SuperBiz ships quick but packs $173 processors like you just bought a set of matchbox cars. Came today in a slightly larger cardboard box with nothing to insulate. Retail box was a little squished, thank god processors aren't as fragile as they used to be and don't use those long pins anymore.

Hey guys, I am in the market for a new laptop for college. There are too many types claiming to be the best so i figure i would ask for some help pinpointing the ones that are actually worth investing into. Price range is around $800 so keep an eye out for any deals on great laptops. I will be purchasing in 2 weeks when i meet my 1k quota.

A good laptop, not for games or high end performance but for college work, streaming, and movies. Something that will last 3 years. Would appreciate being PMed any sales/discounts from worthy laptops.

I recommended this to a friend earlier in the year (for regular, non-gaming use as well), they've been pretty happy with it:
    http://www.amazon.com/MSI-CX61-2QC-1...dp_ob_title_ce

Solid all around laptop. Portability is probably the only downside, as it's a bit on a larger end; but the flip side of that is the heat is well-distributed and it stays relatively cool.

$600 for the laptop, buy a 250gig SSD for another $90 or so, and you can sell the internal HD it comes with for ~$40-50. Ends up being ~$650 total for a well-built laptop with quality components and respectable specs.

If you don't care about gaming, just go for anything with an SSD and a good processor and it should handle anything you toss at it minus gaming or advanced graphics arts rendering. If it's for college, I highly recommend staying in the 15" realm. 17" laptops will have better specs but will be 7-9 lbs. You will get tired of lugging it around. I had a 17" during college, I switched at an 11" ultraportable in law school.

RKenshin's recommendation is solid. Here is a laptop I looked at during my recent search that sound like they would be fine for you

    http://www.costco.com/ASUS-N551JQ-La...100153744.html

That gives you some modest gaming capability with an 845M GPU.
