Bruh, your mobo is either not in the proper alignment spaces or something else is really the fuck off there! That was probably the issue from the start. Had nothing to do with your GPU, just your mobo being screwed in incorrectly.

And not that you need to answer but why did you go with the KabbyLake board versus a Skylake board. I think the price difference in chips was like $30 (at least the i5 equivalents are).

Next time, before you reach for the shears and torch welder, Read The Fucking Manual. This is just plug and play with expensive lego bricks, if it doesn't fit then you have fucked up placement or it was specified to not support things over a certain size (read the manual). I have flippers for arms and I can still look at a few pages!

Aside from that odd fuck up, nice other parts. I'd probably put it into a new unmangled case, but you've otherwise got a solid high end build that you won't have to upgrade for quite some time.

You didn't put in the motherboard backplane, I find that strange. What I find even stranger, though, is that the video card even fits in that mangled area. It doesn't even look like it's secured in the case... is it just hanging there loose?

I didn't know the difference in performance would've been worth the cost.

I do plan on buying another case, but maybe wait another year before i delve back into that. The corner near the GPU was dented in, something i didn't notice when putting the MOBO in so i took everything off and hammered it back into place. GPU fit well after that but it was to late for the case, lol. I'm hoping 8 years it will hold.

Fixed that after the photo. Took pictures before readjusting everything, it looks......better now.

Your gpu is supposed to mount into that mangled area, that's how it's supported. Your mobo should be flush against the rear of the case with the io panel pushing through creating a seal. No cables should ever enter the case from the exterior.

    And in this pic: https://bucket.bluegartr.com/4ffa660...975e00ebb4.jpg

The DVI port on the video card is supposed to be nice and parallel with the metal bars that divide the expansion slots. Your card (which is heavy) is hanging there with no support.

Not bagging on you dude, but fix your shit before it breaks and causes you to lose a $600+ video card (or worse, burns down your home).

Yea, your right. It's not worth waiting for things to go wrong to prompt change, going to have to wait for a paycheck or two first, lol.

Benchmark FF14 at 20954 without any adjustments.

It's not. Which would further prompt someone to question why you'd bother with a far more expensive board.

No judgments, just confused and have questions. It's a great build with, now, a clear path for future upgrades still.

Definitely ask us before even checking a video before you start cutting shit in the future lol

I should mention this is only the second time i ever built a computer. First time by myself and the other time with a friend back in 2009. So I do not have a grasp on the specifics with parts/manufacturers. To build this i had your guys help, tons of research, pc part picker. While building i was also beyond nervous trying to make sure not to fuck anything up and waste a lot of money, thus when i couldn't understand why the GPU wouldn't fit I kinda panicked and said "Fuck this not spending anymore money" then went to town to make extra room. Regrets were had, and I am going to get another case as soon as possible because knowing my luck, the Mobo will snap and the GPU will fry and or break. At least i got it up and running without a hitch on the first try, lol.

    Also will do.

Yep, definitely no judgment here. I guess I just take for granted that computer building is a "round peg = round hole, square peg = square hole" type of situation.

Never thought about it like that Ark but that's exactly how I think lol.

Honestly... it's the back of the case. Personally, I'd keep the case and just fix the stands for the motherboard if I were looking to save money. That would properly align the GPU and "fix" everything. At least by the picture it's simply an alignment issue.

I was realll close to buying one but ended up skipping it because I wasn't gaming at all and wanted to wait for stock to increase.

I may drop the hammer on the 1070 but I'd need to upgrade monitors and shit for it to be worth it. Not gonna drop that much on lol1080

I'm rocking a 1070 @ 1080p, no complaints on my end about future proofing a decent bit.

(to be fair it's also a laptop so not like I have a choice)

There's no reason to buy a new case. Remount your motherboard it's clearly in the wrong spot.

Love my 1070. I game at 1440p and I haven't yet seen it falter at that res. For just a couple bucks over $400, it's been great.

I beg to differ. This is a good reason to buy a new case: https://bucket.bluegartr.com/b65ff19...dbee27706d.jpg

There's nowhere to secure the card. Flopping around loose is a disaster waiting to happen. Even if nothing bad happens, the unsupported weight putting pressure on the PCIe slot could end up ruining the motherboard.

    *edit*

In examining the motherboard, it's one that has multiple PCIe x16 slots. You could move the card down to another PCIe slot and avoid using the mangled slots in the case. That would help matters a LOT here.

Yeah. That's what I would do. It doesn't need to be in slot 1.

Oh? It will still function at 100% at the second port? I thought the one down had some affect in performance?

Going to do it regardless until I get a new case.
