I don't give a single flying fuck about ultra wide. This monitor has identical resolution/refresh rate to my laptop for ease of use, never have to change anything switching to/from other then games that like to reset settings when the display changes.
game in widescreen. it is by far the most immersive and aesthetic experience you'll ever get gaming. that said it really shines for games where immersion is key, RPGs and action-adventures, or where the extra real-estate comes in handy for information as in strategy and sims. for fighting games and competitive FPS you'd prolly be better maxing out response and refresh rates.
personally i also dig it for the light coding i do, extra horizontal space to see extended lines / chopping the screen real estate in two for multitasking (or githubbing) is mint, but as i'm sure you're already aware a supplementary vertical monitor is prolly the best favor you can do for yourself there.
and then also ya on a 1080ti you're gonna struggle to hit 60 fps with modern games in 4K or UW on anything above mediumish settings. lot of older stuff will be fine but the demand on your GFX card fuckin skyrockets when you leave the cosy confines of 1080 or 1440.
hmmm normally I'd agree with kran but you make a solid case for ultrawide. I'll go check a few out in person and see how i feel
Another +1 for ultrawide. I've been saying it for a while now on here but once you go UW you won't be able to play on a non-UW monitor ever again.
I hear ultra wide is the bees knees, but I can't comment.
What I will say though is I never get a monitor over 30", really never over 27", cause once it gets too big I find it difficult to comfortably view the entire screen. I end up having to move my head around a lot more versus just moving my eyes if that makes sense. It's another reason why I don't use a TV as a second or third monitor for desktop use cause it just feels too big and uncomfortable. Idk, something to think about.

Even though I'm happy with my dual monitor set up I've always been curious about UW monitors. They seem nice though I'm curious how a full screen game would work. Would it only take up what it needs on the screen then leave the rest for other windows?
I'm using a 34" ultrawide 1440p 120hz for productivity and RPGs and it's as good as AG says.
My secondary is a 24" 1080p 240hz which I switch to when gaming competitively. Faster response, less eye movement, etc.
Using an L shaped desk so I just pivot basically

It's kinda hard to explain but I feel more like it's a natural FoV with a 38" UW than my old 32" widescreen monitor. I don't find myself looking to the corners at all and instead feel myself using my peripheral vision like I would irl.
Typically for UI elements, if the game doesn't have a UI scale/UI bounds option (most do) then the UI is naturally set closer to the center or there's a mod made for it.
The game takes up the entire screen. Almost every noncompetetive game made in the last 10 years has natural ultrawide aspect ratio. It gives you more horizontal FoV and, depending on the monitor you buy, cuts vertical a little bit or remains about the same. (My 34" Acer Predator cuts v-FoV by a half inch to an inch or so, my 38" Alienware does not.)
A mod/feature like that would alleviate my issue, when gaming, for sure. It's also fine for watching movies with the HDMI connected straight to the PC versus whatever streaming option I'm using, but I never use it as a desktop for the above reasons.

Fullscreen example for Corderrio.
Spoiler: show
As I said, typically only ultra competitive games don't natively support UW aspect ratios, and some games like ones with pre rendered cutscenes and interactions that have environments that were made to be viewed in normal FoV will put black bars on the sides for said cutscenes but return to UW aspect ratio for gameplay.
I have the 27" of this monitor and absolutely love it. I'd have gone with the 32", but I'm using a tiny ikea dining table as a computer desk, so space is at a premium. When we move and I get myself a new desk, I'll go dual monitor, but for a single monitor use, that monitor is amazing.
Not sure if you have any particular games in mind but I can say that I have only played one game that didn't have out of the box Ultrawide support since I've had mine, and I was able to force it into UW using an app.
I really prefer ultrawide for productivity purposes after switching. Here's an example of my screen this past weekend where I was judging an online debate.
I had my flow (notes) on the right, my Gmail/Zoom meeting middle top, the evidence that the debaters were using/reading from bottom middle, then I kept my work windows open to the left (if I was super lazy and not multi-tasking other work I could have Netflix or Youtube in those spots)
Yes I could do this same thing with two monitors with different sizing proportions, but the fact I don't have to crane my neck or pivot to look at the other screen is a huge bonus imo. I keep a second monitor to use in games that are explicitly bad with ultrawide (not that they don't support it but that it's a competitive disadvantage), but now I mainly use it as a control hub for other stuff that's out of my main view most of the time (Discord, WhatsApp, Winamp Playlist, various game launchers).
Honestly anything that gives you real, functional screen space while also doing this is the real answer. You notice it and become annoyed immediately once you realize you're too close and have to move (ever so slightly of course) your head to view opposite corners of the same screen.

Not looking to build a PC but this seems to be the only thread in tech. With Black Friday deals coming up I'm looking to get a decent (not top-line and way expensive) prebuilt. Any recommendations for good bands / deals / sales to look for? I've watched some Gamers Nexus Youtube vids where he complains a lot about prebuilts but it's hard for me to tell what a quality one might be.
I would keep an eye on https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/ (you can filter by prebuilt) for feedback on any upcoming deals. I haven't seen anything that jumped out at me in the past couple of months but I haven't been paying particularly close attention. I feel like ibuypower used to generally be well received; I don't have an opinion on other brands.
My hope for black friday is a decent UPS or two.
