Be careful with NewEgg, their customer support has gone straight down the shitter the last couple of years.

Also, look to see if you have any local shops. That's how I was able to get my GPU at only $180 over MSRP (though they've since raised their prices)

Can confirm. Have actually had 2 packages entirely fail to arrive in the last 6 months via newegg, had to file insurance claims thru FedEx to have it resolved.

Well, the PSU I ordered arrived Monday. So no issue there.

I also just got a mobo after checking price history. The ones I'm after just don't go on sale, and Micro Center doesn't have the models in stock, so no savings even if I could get my ass to Tustin.
There was a decent seller on amazon that had it discounted enough to cover tax and shipping. Newegg would have been free shipping, but the tax would have added up. Was likely the best deal I was gonna get even if I waited.

There isn't much left to get a deal on though. The CPU and case generally only go down by $10, storage range I'm looking at doesn't go on sale really, just $15-20 off on a cooler if I wait on the CM Hyper 212 to go on sale.
Or I could just go stock, but from what I see, if you're actually using the iGPU from an G series AMD chip, you want an aftermarket cooler.

I'll be keeping an eye out, I can hold until the RAM arrives, but it's looking like I'll be on pace to build this for ~$800

100% definitely suggest going for that hyper 212 or a dark rock pro. AMD's newer stock coolers aren't bad but those CPUs do love having some thermal headroom.

I went with a Corsair AIO for my CPU cooling and that does a solid job. Just waiting on them to get the air flow front panels in for their 4000 series case as I went with the RGB model for the fans, but want to ditch the glass front panel to improve the airflow.

Mega dumb question but I would like to check.

I planned to buy a retail copy of Windows 10. The DVD version is cheaper than the download version. If I buy the DVD version, despite having no DVD drive, there's nothing stopping me from making it work by installing Windows 10 from the USB tool Microsoft provides and then applying my key to it, right? Or is there some sort of super secret link between the DVD copy and the license key lol

I think that should be fine. I've used the same Win 7 OEM key on my Windows 7/10 machines for the past 10ish years.

I think you can buy a key dirt cheap on some legit sites though.

Last I knew, Windows 10 still accepted retail (non-OEM) Windows 7 keys with zero issues. They don't advertise it, but if you have one available that's a legitimate option. It might not take it during install, but inside of Windows after, I can't remember.

Microsoft also sells Win 10 Installers on USB. That's what I got when I did my system a few months ago.

No worries, my concern was that there's some black magic tied to the DVD and the license key. I got a reply from their official twitter to say it's A-OK to activate. I know the answer was obvious but I never did it like this before specifically and wanted to be triple sure. If there's any incidents now I can just quote the twitter.

500GB Samsung 980 on sale for $55. I know everyone else wants larger, maybe there's other deals on higher capacities, but it's enough for me.

So for those not in the loop, Newegg is in some hot shit right now after they basically just tried to scam Gamers Nexus. Steve from GN ordered a motherboard for some testing, but it was received too late. Never opened the package, immediately opened an RMA for a refund.

Newegg receives it and denies it claiming bent pints, which is around the time he realized it was an open box. GN went public, got a refund and also got the board back, so they went and opened it up.

The board prior to being sold to GN was actually sent to Gigabyte for repair, which was denied due to the physical damage, and had it's tracking sticker still on the board. They sent it back to Newegg, which promptly shoved it back on the shelf for sale.
