Truly sorry for any inconvenience it may cause you. Thanks again for your understanding and doing business with us.
They are anticipating a very long downtime before restarting their orders, I'm hedging my bets and looking for another supplier since two weeks is a long time to go when you need a new cable sooner than that. I'm looking for solutions other than 'go to best buy and pay 30 dollars for a 5 dollar cable.'

Not that I'm at all sure if this is related, but recently I had to buy something @Monoprice on March 1st and I used a specific card that I don't use for much else at all, and later found that over $70 worth of fraud on that card on the 5th. It could have very well been my own fault and unrelated entirely, but in general I have very safe browsing habits as well as what I feel is a secure computer and a pretty strict whitelist for noscript outside of top-level site scripts. I just found this really peculiar because the particular card hadn't been used in almost a month and it's the first case of fraud I've ever dealt with.

Yeah, something bad happened. Check your CC statements if you've bought anything from monoprice recently. I'm fine but lordy that's a little frightening.

Amazon actually started selling their own brand of cables, I think they're called amazon basics. I ordered a HDMI>DVI converter from there recently (2 weeks) it was about 7 bucks asopposed to the 30-50 price you find in stores. It's also reliable since it's amazon. Cable works just fine. I know you already got your alternative, but options never hurt.

From the chan, take it for whatever its worth.

Monoprice.com hacked, Credit Card info compromised Anonymous 03/09/10(Tue)19:19 No.8889794

Just got off the phone with my bank. Check card had an unauthorized $26 charge to a charity (this is how they test and make sure the card works). Thankfully the charge was only pending and I blocked the account before it went through. Also called the charity, had them void the charge. I'm going to have no credit card for the next 7 days while I wait for my bank to reissue my check card.

What's this have to do with /g/? Monoprice.com is a retailer of incredibly cheap A/V and computer equipment, where you can get hdmi and component cables and assorted stuff for displays and audio for a fraction of the price you'd pay at Best Buy or a normal retailer, and the stuff is usually very good quality.

What happened? Well, they put up a disclaimer today warning everyone that unauthorized charges may be linked to a hole in their security - ie, a bunch of CC numbers got leaked. Mine was one of them. Thankfully, I stopped the "test charge" before anything actually went through. Some people have reported $3,000+ charges.

If you've bought anything within the last couple weeks from them, I'd seriously consider getting your card reissued.

well isn't that balls, I'm still shocked despite it making total sense. The hilarious part of my hacking was that they used it to buy WoW, pay the monthly fees on 2 accounts and purchased like 6 characters. lol
