You'll always be able to get the best of the best, but it might take some extra effort later if you upgrade the wrong weapon now. But on the flipside, you'll have a stronger weapon to use in the meantime, which could get you to the endgame faster. So unless you have the guide and know exactly what to upgrade, it's kind of a coin flip - either way could work out to be the faster method.

I took the flame sabre straight to Lv. 11 and Lightning's been hitting like a ton of bricks. She drops like 3-5k on Rabid Behemoth when staggered. It's 55 STR and 55 MAG at that level.

Spent the rest doing minor upgrades on Hope's weapon, but what I'm really curious about is accessory upgrades. Like if it's just progressive bonuses or extra hidden bonus become active through upgrades.

Any guides on accessory upgrades available??

I just got to chapter 11 and still haven't upgraded anything heh.
This is what I did. Also whistlewind scarf upgrades to aurora scarf which is awesome (Gives First Strike - start every battle with full ATB bar), and keeps the 10% atb gain synergy bonus. This with haste from Sazh means a pretty much non-stop rain of blows right from the getgo. Just dont evolve the aurora scarf - it turns into some +evasion boots for sentinel.

On another note, anyone know what I need to evolve a maxxed axis blade?

There is an upgrade tutorial once you get a key item from the pulse construct machine boss in chapter 4.

Max out its exp till its star level, then use a catalyst (Millerite, Cobaltite, etc) on it. They highlight, while regular items grey out (cant use) when you choose upgrade on a star level item. Cobaltite, for example turns a star level power wristband into a level 4 brawlers wristband.

When I flipped through the guide earlier it had an accessory section right after weapons. It showed things like upgrading an Iron Bangle into Tungsten, Platinum, Insert Random Metal Name Here, among other things.

Do different crystals give different weapons/items?

I dont know, only one highlighted for the items i've upgraded so far. Cant remember what I used on the whistlewind scarf to make it into aurora. Was either millerite, cobaltite or rhodontite I think.

For Lightning, you'll definitely want to upgrade LionHeart. Lucky Breaker is incredibly useful for certain missions.

I just got to Hope's house in Chapter 7and decided to farm up all the upgrades for Light's/Fang's default weapons. I actually just earned the star status on both of them.

Only problem is I'm trying to upgrade/synthesize them again but I guess none of my stones are compatible because they're still grey'd out in the upgrade screen. Are some weapons unable to be synthesized at their cap or do I just have the wrong stones?

Also, when do you get the Lionheart is it that much better for Lightning over her normal weapon? At 26, her default wep has 115 STR/MAG which I think is pretty good because I switch between RAV/COM so much. I hope I didn't just waste my time upgrading these weapons...

Just upgraded and capped my Ultima Weapon. It's a very balanced weapon for those of us who enjoy how flashy Army of One is, haha. Need to wait on the last item to kick it up to Omega Weapon. Think you get it from some A rank mission but not entirely sure.

Either way, if you pair it with an upgraded Speed sash (or whatever the ATB+ deal access is) you get a nice bonus which increases ATB gained per enemy death and TP regeneration.

I'm using the Gladius for Lightning. Just maxed it out/upgraded it to the Helter Skelter. It's sitting at uh.. 168 STR/70 Magic atm. The default one's not so bad, though. Not sure about when you get the Lionheart, and yeah.. the only reason you can't upgrade it to it's next form yet is due to the lack of stones. You get it from a boss later on iirc or a shop.

You can get upgrade items from a shop (it may be locked until you complete certain missions).

Lucky Breaker (for LionHeart) basically sets the enemy in break state randomly without having to build up through magic attacks. For some missions, like...

    Spoiler: show
That giant cactaur that does 10000 needles
, this is the only way to beat it (unless you max out the characters, I guess)

Ok, so I'm on chapter 9, taking a break from story progression to farm the airship guys... amazing money, getting 20 incentive chips or more each run, thousands of cp... good time to upgrade.

Been sitting on a level 11 gladius for a while, but I'm facing a dilemma lol. Light has been a ravager alot lately, so the gladius has been hurting me some. I have an axis blade, and in like 30-45min worth of story I'll be getting the scarf which will give me double boost synthesized passive. I have more than enough money to get the axis blade to level 15 or higher, but the drop in strength is pretty big... there is a drop in magic too even I think.

Should I stick with gladius or go for speed and upgrade axis? Or should I just leave glad at 11 and maybe upgrade fangs weapon.... The easy money from this spot makes it really worth it to upgrade.

note: I have the guide for easy upgrading and for stats, but it's a matter of opinion on weapon upgrades in this game - not too many omg must haves till much later.

edit: another option would be to buy a blazing saber (default weapon) from shop, it's a lower exp rank so I could probably shoot that straight into the 20's, and be much more well rounded... but then again, gladius max str/mag is 175/88, saber is 115/115, axis is 48/48 lol.

Strength effects the damage on Aquaslash and stuff. No reason not to keep upgrading Gladius even if she's playing Ravager a lot. For tougher enemies I tend to swap her to Ravager and build chain with the elemental slashes. Then it's either back to Commando once they stagger or stay on Ravager if they happen to take more damage from the eleslashes than regular Attack.
