See, I know you entertain some kind of eternal life fantasy because you've chosen not to smoke; let me be the first to pop that fucking bubble and send you hurtling back to reality – because you're dead too. And you know what doctors say: "Shit, if only you'd smoked, we'd have the technology to help you. It's you people dying from nothing who are screwed."

Is it the same CNN medical lady who said that "white matter" in the brain is "only good for chucking spears and playing video games"?

She said they weren't giving out this information to persuade people to smoke because it's only 1 component of cigarettes that helps in this prevention method.

It's Elizabeth Cohen who said it, and yeah apparently the 1 component they need to harness is nicotine like Byte said.

So all I need to do is inject myself with a highly addictive neurotoxin? Worth it.

Why do you have to be such a !@#$%^& for ? I hope they can harness the nicotine in a non-addictive-neruotoxic way, to help out people like Muhammad Ali.

nicotene isn't really a neurotoxin per se. It's a chemical that mimics neurotransmitters, specifically binding to nicotinic receptors. It's toxic in high doses but virtually impossible to OD on unless you chew gum, slap on a bunch of patches and chainsmoke your way through a carton at the same time. You can, of course, OD on anything as anything is toxic in high enough doses. The only adverse physiological effects it has is long term damage to arteries through secondary effects of prolonged raised BP.
