    Playstation Wii, I mean Move.

Saw this on twitter and couldn't find a thread already posted:
    http://www.thekoalition.com/closer-l...medium=twitter

Sony has wrapped up their GDC press conference and it was filled with news regarding their new sextoy motion controller. Sony has christened their motion controller with an official name, Playstation Move. Yeah, I like “Arc” much better. Along with a name and a few party games that were highlighted during the press conference comes a set of pictures of the Playstation Move. From what I recall, I don’t ever remember it being a 2 piece controller but it is. This makes it that much similar to the Wiimote, wrist strap and all.

Playstation Move is due out this fall and will even get its own special PS3 bundle. Sony has alot riding on the Move, do you think they can find success? What are your thoughts on the design of the Move?
You can see pictures of the controllers on the website.

I had hopes they'd end up using this for something badass (if you saw the tech demo, it was capable of some cool shit like holding, aiming, and drawing a bow) but "Playstation Move" sounds like it's gonna be some faggy wii fit thing

I want to punch whoever's in charge of naming sony products in the balls

Most of that looks interesting, however that face thing is just too silly.

So basically, to prepare myself for future games as a single player, I would need two Move controllers, and one sub-controller. That's a bit much. ;/

Also a bit worried that it'll turn the PS3 into controller-compatibility hell, where some games shoe-horn the stuff in just to say they support it and etc.

Makes me consider picking up a mini-USB splitter so I could charge multiple controllers off the one port.

I on't think so. They mentioned in their press conference that they specifically don't want that to happen and showed SOCOM4 having support for both sixaxis and move, and sort of implied "this is how AAA titles should handle it".

AAA titles shouldn't have to support either Sixaxis or Move, casuals ruin everything.

It's not meant for the casual market, hence SOCOM4 demo and repeating "precision" as the key feature of the controller throughout the whole conference

EDIT: also, I want to play an RPG w/ that archery, it looks awesome

I said in spam I would love to see a Demon's Souls side project with Move, but without actual physical feedback I don't know how melee combat would work

In the case of Socom 4, they may as well just add in bloody mouse & keyboard support.

Analog players won't be able to compete with a high-level Move user if the controls are done right.

Demon's Souls wouldn't work well since the Move controller can't convey a sense of weight. A lot of Demon's Souls weaponry are fucking heavy. The most I could see of the combat system would be to haveing it 1:1, but your character's actual movements lag behind your own as he/she tries to wield the weapon and its attributes/style to your controllers current orientation in space.

For instance, I would do a swing motion for a light weapon, and it'd match it onscreen relatively easy. Add in Dragon Bone Smasher, and my dude would fall behind a couple seconds due to the sheer power required for him to lift it as is to get it to where I'm holding my controller at.

Of course what would really end up happening is all of us accidently killing our NPCs in the Nexus due to moving the controller in the attempt to scratch our arse.

Move: It's Not For Casuals, Really

I always cast a jaundiced eye at swanky peripherals. My favorite Wii games make zero or near zero use of aiming/motion control, but I do like the idea of the implicit ergonomics behind having one controller per hand, since it lets you rest your hands more naturally if you don't have to aim it at the screen.

From the article i read at IGN it seems that it will be the controller + a game for 100$. I wouldnt think thats too unreasonable, but from the same article it says that it requires the playstation eye as well which is somewhat disappointing because then you have to buy another peripheral you may hardly use. For some reason i do not think this will be terribly successful with how they setup this system and pricing.

I think even if it does become successful it will most likely go down the same path of the Wii, where a majority of the people committed to making quality Playstation Move titles will be Sony, like the Wii and Nintendo. Why would developers make games for a niche market rather then just make games for the ps3 itself?

A little off topic, but am i the only one thinks that the Playstation Eye pets in that one pet simulator game look more disturbing than cute? Human-like faces on strange looking creatures for some reason disgusts me.

    And stuff
No, the camera will be included. All three (Motion controller + Camera + Game) for under $100.

As for the niche market thing. They said for the most part, the motion controller stuff will be optional (especially for hardcore games) and take very little time to implement.

The hardcore games parts looked pretty good. Socom4 with or without motion controller is what I'm looking forward to now.

(Add a w to the links or remove all, I can't post urls with my post count yet. lol)

Edit: Sort of a sum up info:

Sony has very little to lose and everything to gain from this, I like it. I won't use it myself, but even the developers themselves have said that it's very easy to program for and will not be required for the hardcore games.

I also think the price point is perfect, and the demos really make it seem much more than a Wii clone.

I just hope they offer the game separately at a cheap price, as I don't want to be screwed just because I've owned the Playstation Eye (webcam) for two years now.

When this shit comes out I'll be grabbing the game, two Moves, and a subcontroller. Hoping it'll come out at roughly $70, but I doubt it.

I do hope they change their mind on the subcontroller though, and instead give it the ball and the motion capabilities as well, that way I could dual-wield stuff without the need for a spare Move. It makes no sense to have the three possible control set ups when it could just be two instead. I get the feeling some games are going to employ a DualShock+Move setup. Hold the dualshock in one hand (either or), and move in the other. Wouldn't really be ergonomic, but the one hand on a dualshock has access to one analog, 4 face buttons (or d-pad), and two shoulder buttons.

Until they design an entire virtua chamber complete with multiple types of "moves" for different weapons, including single and two-handed swords, bows, axes, and fist weapons, and until they design an epic RPG that utilizes full-motion sensors so that I can walk, run, dodge, and roll within a confined area in my home, I'll be sticking with the occasional Wii bowling when I go over a friend's house.

If you're gonna do this shit, go all out. I don't care about throwing a few e-punches at a fighter or something. I want LotR shit, without the pointy ears.

Terrible name I was hoping for gem and arc and all that other left-field stuff. But in all honesty, even if they named it something else, 90% of people going into retailers will call it "New Playstation thingy" "That new PS controller" "PS motion controllers" "Playstation remotes" etc
