I want to know where to get a damn chocobo. This is frustrating.
If you're just getting to Gran Pulse, I suggest farming some CP. Its worth it.

You must clear Mission 14 to ride chocobos. To unlock Mission 14 you must clear missions 1-3, 5, 7, 12 and 13 first.
If you've just entered Gran Pulse, follow the map marker to your next location. Right as you are nearing you'll come across a lone Behemoth King and a Shop Point. Down the hill just a little farther is a Behemoth King fighting a giant white wolf thing. Engage in battle with them and it will ALWAYS be preemptive and both start at 50% health; the wolf will be attacking the Behemoth. Attack the Behemoth King first and make sure to keep it launched so that it can't stand. After that just finish off the weaker wolf. The fight will take a little longer until you get it down (about 2minutes tops maybe). I've got it down to 53seconds with my group.
If that doesn't explain it well enough, post again and I'll put up a picture of it, but be forewarned it's not going to be pretty.
*Edit*
Forgot to mention. After the fight is over run back up the hill towards the Shop Point. Run just a hair past it, turn around and start going back down the hill. If you've ran far enough they'll have respawned; if not run a bit farther. Fight + run + reengage is about 2.5min tops once you get it down for 6.6k.
Yeah I ran all the way back there but didn't go far enough to do 6 and 7 apparently, I just looked them up online. Kind of annoying, I'm not walking back there now until I get another waypoint stone and can warp to it...
Anyone have a good link to the missions and maybe maps of where they are? I went from 5 to 8 and had to look online to see I had missed 6 and 7.
Thanks TacoTaru for the tips, I'll go check out that spot, I know exactly what you mean by keeping him launched, I do that with all the hard foes, otherwise they will put back up their shell/stand up (shell guys, behemoth). Those are the only two types I've noticed keeping them launches is really helpful for, I still make a habit of timing it to keep them launched though.
This particular Behemoth King isn't terrible because he's at half health with the wolf thing beating on him. The only thing I would worry about is if you have two of the weaker characters not being able to take him out before he stands, but if you have experience with them then it should be as easy for you on your first as it is for me now.
Oh. Hmm.. Thanks Taco.
EDIT: Gonna edit OP.
I'm trying my best to avoid any guides that give too much away, but fuck me I can't find 6 and 7 to save my life. <______<
..........................apparently I did 6 and didn't realize it. I had to peak at the mark to see what it was. <__________<
Spoiler: show
Is there a good/quick way to farm money here? I'm broke as shit and would like to upgrade some accessories/weapons while I'm grinding.
Not really, until you do later missions or so I'm told. Everything in the Steppe drops fangs worth not a lot. Once you get a choco you can do some digging, I've found a gold nugget so far
I've done missions 1-14 now, with 5 stars on all but a couple. I'm debating whether to stay in Pulse for awhile longer or move along with the story. I'm loving this place, so it's hard to leave. Especially since I can ride chocobos now. ><
I think I might go look for another gold nugget so I can buy an Adamantite to upgrade Axis Blade and then leave.
Btw you can do smaller turtles (the ones without the tusks and spikes around their legs), they are weaker than their big "I stomp for 10k dmg if you got no protect up" brothers. Two of those small ones guard a chest, one of them has a gold nugget at least and iirc the other did too. That's 120k right there. Think you should have about 5-6k HP to handle those babies (stomps do about 1k-2k). I'm not sure when you can actually take them on, I did them waaaaaaay later (thinking all did 10k stomps), cruising 8k HP and shit.
I tried one of those 'small' turtles with ~2300 health. It didn't turn out so well.![]()
I have the same issues. Like I want to advance the storyline, but this zone is just so fucking amazing. The music, especially the graphics. I found myself having a gay moment and just staring down a cliff for like 10 minutes because the graphics were simply unreal.
