Would you play FFXI converted to a Single Player experience

There's an interesting poll on RPGamer that got me thinking, would you play FFXI if SE converted it into a Single Player RPG? I think, with the great storylines in all the expansions, it could be a truly great RPG and would play it without hesitation. What do you guys think?

    FFXII comes to mind. lol

Honestly, if i had the option to transfer my mithra w/ the current jobs i have leveled + gear, then definitely. That is of course assuming that all my missions from every xpac got reset and relive them in single player.

It would be cool to have your character play in single player but have new leveled up jobs seperate from the online game, or else it'd be another PSO and we'd see a lot of fucked up shit. lol

Yeah, I think the idea is that it would be completely single player and not connected to the online game at all. Basically imagine that the online game didnt' exist and instead they made it a SP game. I think it would be great, but would take a lot of tweaks to make it work.

It's already there and it's called FFXII and guess what, FFXII is much better than FFXI can ever be.

Yeah but FFXII doesn't have the story and complexity of FFXI. They're not really comparable IMO.

I would think the FF tactics system coming to mind now, that you can recruit mercenaries as different party members since there's no specific characters to be in your party unless is those random story npcs. The challenge would be there, fighting fafnir w/ 18 people but only being able to control 1? Would need a lot of tweaking indeed.

Are you kidding me? Did you even play the game? XI's story is better than the majority of MMORPGs but it isn't even worth mentioning when you compare it to the non-MMORPGs.

Overall, XI would be a terrible, unplayable single player game.

I played FFXI for 7 years and I disagree. The CoP storyline alone was better than half the SP RPGs out there right now, and with the way all the expansions tie together, you could really craft an amazing single player story.

unplayable game? The OP did mention that this entire idea was based on them converting the game so that one player is able to get things done. I supose that would mean adding adjustable scripts for NPC part members, reducing the difficulty a little bit so that one player can keep up on all there is to do... and so on. It would be a monumental effort.

I think this would be a fantastic single player game. If they put the effort into making it physicaly playable.

I used to talk about a single player game about the crystal war, before WotG was even heard of. Something like Zeid, Volker, and a few other national NPCs helping get the three nations together against the Shadow Lord. Dunno who'd be the "main" character, maybe Volker...since he seems like the young and brash type in Wings.

only if they managed to preserve the player role as one of many adventurers who can only become so powerful.

Then what? Story-wise, it doesn't offer anything significant. As a stand alone single player it'd be a waste of time to go through the missions again. Are you going to chop Colibris? Fight Odin over and over again?

If you really want to repeat the missions that bad, start a new character and repeat CoP missions. That way, you can actually play the game the way it is meant to be. Nothing is stopping you.

I'd rather see a whole new game set in the world of FFXI, retelling the same story, than see the current game made SP.

FFXII would've been a shitload more badass if it had recreated the story-line from XI. Voted No anyways.

Hell no. Once through was more than enough. A single-player experience with similar droprates would be hellish: at least there was a sense of camaraderie to console you if you got a bunch of shitty abjurations and a useless sword or two. Alone, I'd be bored out of my mind.

That, and the stories were pretty shit. Many an evening on Ventrilo was spent in a state of confusion at the stupid goddamn errands which half the fucking globe wanted to send our plucky band of goons on.

Yeah because botting HNMs and shouting for hours for missions that people wont help you with is how it was "meant to be played"

    /sigh

Hell Yes. Ideally it could be Multiplayer, but not Internet Multiplayer, and with the level 99 cap id wager as broken as it seems theres nothing two people couldnt do, and for anything else the AI "Linkshell" ala suikoden could handle the rest.Adjust drops rates on things, keep instanced stuff on timers, yes id love to work on my relic at home in my spare time, which i can now if i chose to, but without shitheads farmers or SE "Adjusting" vendor prices.
in conclusion "I'd Pay 50$ for one!"
