I think I would play it single player if nothing more than to experience things solo that have required larger groups for in the past. Though personally I would love to see a system along the lines of something like Echoes of Time where you can invite up to 3 other gamers to your hosted game. That would let you play with a couple friends that could replace the party members you'd normally have for single player mode. Would make it much more fun I think.

Even though I don't think it's anywhere near as similar as people are bitching about, I'd play it even if they simply replaced Ivalice/Pulse with Vana'diel any day. 12/13 are some of my favorite battle systems so far and either one would fit perfectly with how the story and world were built in FFXI.

I don't think this is even a question about whether or not XI is similar to XII... People bitch when the next installment is too different and people bitch when the next installment is a "rip-off" of a past installment. I would love to play through RotZ/CoP/ToAU/WotG/Nation missions again just for the storyline if it were dressed in a battle system I already enjoyed.

So, what if that were the case? What if they literally recycled FFXII's Gambit/License system and recycled FFXI's stories and slapped them together? Why would that be a terrible thing? You jackasses like to be comedians "I already played XII hurrrrrrrr" and pretend you wouldn't touch it.

    My ass.

I would not play it. There are very few storylines in the game I found good enough to stand on their own - I think Altana missions, ToAU's storyline and Windy's past questline are the only three, honestly. CoP might have been better if it wasn't so goddamn confusing/poorly translated (or maybe it was like that from the start...) As someone else said, the interaction keeps me playing, reaching goals with my friends overshadows any gripes about story I may have.

You people really think all the rare mobs in FFXII came from just randomly zoning in? How about that Danjuro NM, spawn conditions require you to chain ghosts in the zones next to his zone to like 255 (maybe only 100ish, it's been a while) and he has a chance to spawn. So you got to run around, chain killing ghosts waiting for him to appear. Boy does that sound like Leaping Lizzy to anyone else? Yeah yeah, you're killing ghosts and it's a wight/wraith NM, but big deal, I'm sure there's a similar NM in FFXI that spawns lotto off a different mob type than their own.

FFXII is FFXI done almost right. The NM's, like the Danjuro one I just explained about, is retarded, I ragequit FFXII after I went 0/15 on getting a Danjuro, spending a few hours a day for a week or two spawning the mob over and over again. Yeah, that to me sounds just like FFXI...

Ok, I agree the mechanics are there, but we're not talking solely about gameplay here. We're talking about the storylines, the crafting, sidequests, and the zones / dungeons. Gameplay makes up just one area of what I consider FFXI to be as a game. The story, sidequests, and zones are all ones that I would love to be able to explore in a SP game.

We get it, FFXII plays like FFXI, but they're not the same GAME.

Then no, I wouldn't play FFXI as a single player game, I've already done most of the storyline and the majority of the enjoyment in FFXI is playing with others. I'd rather just have a brand new Final Fantasy game.

They are both annoyingly based on luck for a lot of things though which should definitely not be the case in a singleplayer game!

I'll agree completely with this... I don't know why people consider FFXI to have such an amazing story. I think the fact that you are playing with friends makes it seem a bit better than it is... the three nation storyline missions are generally extremely bland and basic (beastmen are generic "evil rawr" enemies who just want to conquer) except at the end of each and Rise of the Zilart starts off quite promising but has nothing really beyond that.

I think CoP would make more sense if we didn't have so much stuff to do between each cutscene, not to mention most people don't do a lot of them consecutively.

I agree with you there, though I can sort of see the logic in it in online games since it's a subscription etc. I still think it's a cheap way to drag out content, but hey.

In a singleplayer game, there is no subscription fee at all so we shouldn't have to grind low drop rate items.

To be honest all they'd really have to do is tone down some of the bigger stuff, and then remove all the stupid crap that's put in simply to prevent soloing.

Simple answer to the OP question: Hell no.
