Been watching this and so far, have been impressed a lot ! At my job at TWC, we had HBO stop by and hand us a DVD of the first two episodes before show aired, and was hooked.
I personally didn't have a problem with episode 2, but my friend was complaining almost constantly for me to turn up the brightness, turn off the lights in the room, see if there was another version available to download... I just thought of it as a nice touch of authenticity that added a lot of suspense to the scenes.
I'll definitely be buying this on blu-ray when it comes out, even though I'm downloading them in HD as they come out. I'm hoping they have a massive bonus features like they did on BoB. The making of that came out about a week ago was really good but I wish I hadn't have watched it. Spoilarzzzz.![]()
i have watched both episodes but not very closely, i cant really differentiate between the characters i just not there is some curly hair stud and some monster from episode 2 that killed every jap ever. i think he will be my favorite. what it his name so i know to cheer for him
oh man found him, what a hero http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Basilone
Protip: Don't read about the people's military service record unless you want spoilers.
part 3 was a bit slow but i guess they have to do these kinds ep both for character building and historical perspective.
hoping part 4 is going to be a bombshell since 3 was so meh.
I became really disinterested in the series after part 3. I don't really feel any connection to the characters at all.
I much prefer the band of brothers style, where you're following a company throughout the war. Perhaps they couldn't find a company similar to Easy company? It just seems super disconnected.Overall I'm pretty dissapointed with a lack of continuity, and a lot of the characters look SO MUCH alike, and don't have many chances to differentiate themseles, and when you see them all together, it's pitch black combat.Spoiler: show
I'm pretty dissapointed, but I'll continue to watch in hopes that itll get better, but my hopes aren't very high
They are following a single "unit", the 1st Marine division. The pacific theater is much different from the European theater or other famous wars. Take an island, wait for your forces to rebuild in a few months, wait to get shipped out, etc. Most of the combat in between were naval and air skirmishes. BoB slowed down after the Bastogne episodes, mostly because the war slowed down. I think the episode "The Last Patrol", which was the third to last, had the final major combat scene, when they take the german prisoners across the river. After that it was the concentration camp, and cleaning up Bertchesgarden (I probably spelled that wrong).
As for the episode itself, I thought they expanded the characters fairly well.
Spoiler: show
i def havent lost interest and i certainly can tell the chars apart and im seeing the relationships build.
this most recent part just lost me for obvious reasons.
Previews for next week:
Spoiler: show
Hmm, I guess i'm not paying enough attention to it? I definetly did not get the feel they're all a part of the same unit. This is probably due to reading the wiki spoilers someone mentioned above, prior to the series completing finishing. I'll have to rewatch it from the start tonight and see if I can pick up on the characters a bit more. I find the individual episodes entertaining enough, but as a series I've not been too intrigued.
Tom Hanks does great work, so it's probably on my end :<
See, I felt that way about BoB for the first few episodes too. There are just so many characters that it will take a little bit longer to recognize who they are right away. I don't think I remembered all the major and minor characters until sometime during my second watching of the series, and I still pick out little details I hadn't noticed when I rewatch them. With this series though, the two major characters are Basilone and Leckie, and they aren't really played by famous people. BoB had Ron Livingston and Donnie Wahlberg, and the dude from Friends that played Sobel. The big name in this show is William Sadler.
I lamented the lack of combat, but it was a good, character driven ep. And what's more, TITS. HOW COULD YOU GUYS FORGET TITS.
it's HBO, nobody forgets tits, they are a given
Dat ass etc.
I liked this episode. I can't think why...
is there a place online to watch this? hulu doesnt have this
