FFXI Ultimate $7.49 for Sale on Steam Til Monday

Just thought I'd point out that every FFXI expansion+addon are on sale this week on Steam for $7.49 instead of $14.99. The sale ends on this monday. Kind of lame for me since I had just bought it full price last week but oh well. If you only want to buy it for the terrible addons that comes out to like 2.50 each which is about their true value.

Just FYI if you're like me and never really used Steam before careful not to have it begin auto-downloading the game when you pull it up. After stopping the download once it started it overwrote my already installed FFXI registry or something and I wound up having to do a restore to fix it.

Couple of things about the Steam version you should keep in mind:

It's about an 9gig download and you have to patch EVERYTHING. Only real advantage is the price and not having 7 CDs to swap through.

I have no idea about Windower support as I don't use it. I'm sure someone will enlighten us hopefully.

The Steam overlay does not work in Vista/7. Works just peachy keen in XP.

Yeah, if you are already able to install the game via CDs or torrent just get the universal key and use it to activate what you want. Since it's a universal single reg key when you use it on something it will prompt you whether or not you want to activate all of it's contents at once.

I don't think so. I just tried to do this, but since it's only one code for all things, it told me I couldn't give my friend expansions. I could be wrong though.

I will never buy through Steam again. I bought a game a few months back (Dead Space) which simply would not work on my PC. Tried all sorts to get it working... and no decent customer support. It only cost me £15, so I just put it down to experience. But it's the last money they will ever see from me.

I don't know I'd be curious if anyone else has tried it. I think if it is possible though it'd require activating the initial content you want then specifying that you don't want to activate everything at once. So when the prompt asks you choose "no". I have a bunch of redundant reg keys now I'm not sure what to do with.

steam FFXI works fine, after the update notes I came back and bought it. the DL took me a decent amout of time and so did the update. but I lost a few CD's so it was worth it.

As for if you can split the key and use it? no you cant once you use the key on one account it can only be used on that account.

Windower/all add ons work fine with steam. Tested on windows XP, windows 7(64x ulit/home)

Iv tested and it works fine on all my PCs with mixed windows types ~_~
