Does anyone know if it's possible to download the NA version (and pay in dollars) if you're positioned in Europe? It defaults me to €, which will mean the EU version, when I need the NA.

yes, I just recommend doing it on another computer so it doesnt mess up your FFXI installs

btw the one reg entry in the command text worked after a file check

Doesn't Steam provide you with registration codes? That way I wouldn't even have to download it.

You have to start the download in order to access it. Otherwise it is not an option.

Have someone in NA gift it to you through steam. Then pay them through palpay or something.

Any idea if Steam retains the typical folder directories from the actual FFXI install?

Tempted to buy this (and come back for a month to do the add-ons/get the new avatars this update), but I'm short on bandwidth. Was wondering if dumping my backup of my FFXI folder from months ago would work. Would love to have the Steam overlay if it does indeed work on WinXP.

Finally caved and restored my content ID. Got everything installed/updated... logged in to find that I've completely forgotten how to play

It's good to see my taru in Rapparee Harness and Bonecrafting Specs again though

Well that went better than expected.

Dumped the POL folder from my old backup to the Steam directory for FFXi, and saved me 8gb of bandwidth. Steam only had a fuss with 117mb worth of data.

[EDIT] God damnit, can't remember my password for my POL account. What's the point of linking it to my SE-ID if I have to remember both. Is there a retrieve option somewhere?

I'm afraid you'll have to contact their customer support, if you forgot your password. Will need full info on it, most likely (reg. key, address, full name, birthdate, etc.).

Friend of mine just bought this and says he keeps getting an error when he logs into POL saying his friend list couldn't be synced or something. He's an old player returning to the game. I have no idea if this is related to the Steam version or if his account is somehow jacked up, anyone have any ideas?

previously mentioned (kinda) solution seems to work

go to program files/playonline, copy the square enix folder

go to steam/steamapps/common, create folder "ffxi", paste square enix folder inside there

only downloads like 100meg then

I'm downloading the EU version (I assume since I just paid for it in pounds). I wanted to play on my old NA account. I don't have to do anything special to get this to work, right?

Anyone know the location of the FFXI registry entries for the Steam release? I can find POL/Tetra, but not FFXI. Either that or they've not been created yet since I've yet to run the config or the game, since it's taking a bloody year to update.
[EDIT] Yep, just had to run the config once and they were created. (couldn't do it mid-update since POL was running)
