Rail Canada is relaxing stuff. No complaints.
And like you plan, bring a laptop.

It depends on how far you're traveling, really. Trains we're great for moving around the east coast back when I was visiting, just going from place to place (maybe a few hundred miles apart for each stop.) However, taking a train back all the fuck way from Washington DC to Salt Lake City was a horrible idea. The ride spanned over two days and I couldn't stand being confined the way we were not to mention I probably could have saved money by just working during that time instead of being on a train.
With that price difference and you having a cabin + laptop + internet, it's not really much of a question. The only reason to take the flight would be if you're pressed on time, and you say you're not.
However, anyone who finds it 'fun' to ride a train has got to be quite easily amused.
I've never been on a train, sounds like it would be kind of tight but not something I'd want to do every time I take a trip. Might try it out sometime
train. I've done both.
trains are so much better, honestly. they're a lot lot better simply because of the room to move and better food. it's worth the longer trip.
statistically speaking, you have a greater chance of dying on a train than on a plain
cars are the worst, with bicycles in 2nd, pedestrians in 3rd, then trains
bees are more likely than plane, so don't travel by bee
Did a round trip on Amtrak from Pittsburgh to Chicago a couple years back, was my first time on a train that wasn't some slow-moving carnival ride. While the trip was only about 8 hours each way, they were also timed so I could try to sleep through most of the trips. It wasn't terribly crowded, so I basically had two seats to myself to sprawl, but the ride back I did have a woman by me at that start that eventually disappeared to somewhere else on the train for the duration of the ride. Makes me wonder if I smelled or something.
Anyway, brought some handheld gaming to distract me when I couldn't sleep, and aside from it being a little cold (trip was in November), the ride wasn't too bad. Probably wouldn't be a preference if I could a cheap plane ticket or have to spend like 2 days on one, but I'd also say having a cabin and a woman to mack on could make it all the better. Or completely awkward if you get in a fight early on.
Never touched the food, personally, for fear of cost and the fact I just made myself some sandwiches beforehand.
Train - after waiting in the airport to fly back to Newark from California and waiting 18hours in the airport alone made me want to kill myself
train
What was the reason for the delay? I travel a lot for work (2-3 times/month), and I really only get delays when flying into Newark. If I hit up any other airport (smaller or larger) I never have problems.Train - after waiting in the airport to fly back to Newark from California and waiting 18hours in the airport alone made me want to kill myself
Worst delay ever was a few years ago when the entire northeast was without power. 23 hour delay with people actually sleeping outside of La Guardia b/c we were so fucking crammed in to that place lol.
I try and fly out of Stewart (SWF) as much as possible now. You almost always have to transfer, but the airport is 15 minutes from my house lol. It's also so damn small you can get through security in 10 minutes tops, even at the busiest of times.
I take the Hiawatha line from Milwaukee to Chicago pretty regularly and really enjoy it. It is a short run though, so I'm not sure how it compares to the OP of plane or train.
But I sure as hell know it beats driving downtown Chicago and paying for parking. I think that has a lot to do with my enjoyment of the train ride.
Edit: Oh yeah, and I've never been delayed (generally early arrivals) on that run and the fact that I can show up 5 minutes before the scheduled departure and still find a good seat is awesome.
Train when is cheaper than flying and you can get a cabin, the trip it self is a nice experience.
Like somebody posted above, flights are a pain in the ass with getting there on time, waking up hella early yadaydaydayda.
I occasionally take the Amtrak from Seattle to Portland. It's an enjoyable and scenic ride. It's never crowded and the seats are spacious, so even if a larger person is sitting next to you, his body is not spilling over into your chair.
Also, there is AC power to plug things like notebooks into, so you can have something to do and not run out of battery power.
I however would not trust my car to sit in the Amtrak parking lot overnight much less several days. Have someone drop you off if you can.
When arriving though, at least in Portland, I always get hit up by panhandlers for cash while waiting for a taxi.
What ever you choose to do, have fun on your trip!
Trains are pretty awesome and for that price difference I'd go for train.
But there's a lot of cases where it saves you fuck all in money and it takes like double the time, in which case the plane is obviously the better choice.
I think you're going the wrong way.
Also, theres panhandlers at every train station i've ever been at. Also is there no parking garage at the Seattle train station? And OP would be leaving her car in Nova Scotia Canadia, I doubt they would have problems with urban youths stealing their ride.
What website did you go to, since you said you thought it was wrong.
