People are idiots. There were towns in this game, just not any that you went around and shopped in. They were fricking fugitives for 99% of the game's story line. They were hated and feared and if they walked into some guy's weapon shop they'd have been shot on site. Not like their faces weren't plastered over their "TVs" or anything. Storywise it didn't make sense to have shoppable towns. However, they were in several towns. Nautilus, Palumpolum, Eden, etc. OMG we can't shop and buy stuff whatever will we do?!

Was there an explanation that I missed earlier in the game stating why fang got hers like that? (my guess would be because she half completed her focus or some shit)

Basically, Remember Fang had let herself change physically into the manifestation of something else. She had let go to her focus and been "rewarded" for it. Vanille wasn't Ragnarock the first time. Fang had become it herself. Vanille hadn't completed any sort of mental transition the first time around. The group's mark's changed when they confronted the end of their road. When they had, like Fang, come to a mental crossroads that allowed them to fulfill their duty as l'Cie.

This is of course one option..

The other is that the "smoke & mirrors" wasn't really smoke and mirrors at all and Fang's mark was changed by the maker's intervention 500 years ago. The group actually may have changed and the Maker intervenes and their marks are changed in the process. Just another theory, but since we tossing them out there.

    ---

On another note... I loved the ending, it was quite wonderful as I have said. However, the worst part of the ending is the fact that there is no way of replaying any of the Cutscenes in the game. Why SE? Why? Was it too difficult to add some mission that allows us to revisit our "memories"? It would have been easy and fit into the Cieth Stone mission concept.

    Spoiler: show

With this kind of ending I think a sequel is possible. Besides they've started to regularly make them since FFX-2.
Both FFX and FFXII had endings with "gone" characters (Tidus and Fran/Balthier, respectively) and both got a sequel.
Besides we still don't know the chocobo chick's name.

The ending, while nice, just doesn't feel "complete".
I mean, two major characters are turned into crystals and everyone is homeless because both Pulse and Cocoon are inhabitable. One may argue that it's very reminiscent of FFVI's ending and that one was fine like that, but still.

I also believe that Vanille and Fang are lovers, they're just not going to openly say something like that in a FF game. Kind of left to players' interpretation.

Eh... sequels usually let me down, so I hope they leave it as is and just give us a bunch of DLCs instead. Don't get me wrong, I loved a lot of X-2, but meh, shit was kinda cheesy til the end.

Why do peeps keep saying they turned into ragnarok, ragnarok was the thing fang turned into when trying to fight orphan. They looked like they fused their eidolons. Ragnarok is only created by intense rage (why fang couldn't hold the form to kill orphan).

Fang did turn into Ragnarok 500 years ago. I don't understand your statement.

And she failed. She could not maintain the form of Ragnarok because she was simply not enraged enough. She half-assed the job, got turned to crystal, and 500 years later woke up.

She wasn't angry according to vanille's narration when trying to destroy orphan.

Besides I wasn't talking about if fang could change to ragnarok. I'm talking about the huge difference in appearance between ragnarok and the fusion of the eidolons vanille and fang performed in the final CS.

Liked the ending though as others have said, a bit shorter than I was hoping (especially given how mind blowing the main CS's were for this game...really wanted to see a bit more)

I would really like to see something along the lines of Advent Children made for a sequel, as they definitely left a lot of things open at the end, and the character development was fantastic which would make for a great sequel. I think its all going to come down to $ + popularity for SE though, and as it stands now, I don't think this game has garnered enough of either to warrant future investments in the same characters.

Only took them 10? years to do this for FF7, don't think I will hold my breath that long for an FF13 followup >_>

IIRC, the reason Fang did a half-assed job the first time around was because both her AND Vanille were suppose to become Ragnarok. However, Vanille pussied out, and Fang did it all by herself, which wasn't enough.

Which is why Vanille can remember everything while Fang cannot.

^That, they were supposed to become Ragnarok together, it fails solo.

Also look closely at that form at the end of the game of the Ragnarok beast Hioki and then look at the vision the crew had at the beginning of the game, see the similarities?

Not to mention that when Fang tried to half-ass it again at the endboss there is a resemblance between that form and the "Fang part" of the fusion in the ending sequence. So yes, they became Ragnarok.

So pretty much, l'Cie's = Saiyans, Ragnarok = Super Saiyan.

However the form looks exactly like a mix between Hecaton/bahamut. How was Orphan able to verify ragnarok so simply?

The Dream sequence seemed like an assumption that it was ragnarok built off the current society that pulse l'cie are bad therefore it must be that. None of the chars were capable of putting really any of it in context they made assumptions.

Well it could make sense that it'd look like a fusion of their eidolons considering the eidolons are a piece of them. Let's just end it and say they turned into Ragnarok. You can believe it looks like whatever the fuck you want.

I'm aware it looked like a form between Hecaton and Bahamut, but I'm also aware I saw that same beast in the vision. I don't give a flying fuck what the cast makes of the vision, I'm just comparing 2 images, shit looked identical, that's it.

Only thing I hate about JP sequels is everyone seems to regain all the issues they already got over. It's like that's the only way to make the character interesting or give them motivation. I'd be pissed if in a FFXIII sequel Hope returns to being the whiny bitch he was at the start of the game and not the good character he is at the end.

I agree with the DLC thing, would be awesome to explore even more of Pulse, fight more interesting marks and see more cut scenes of awesome, potentially starring more Titan.

i'd rather DLC than a sequel. FFXIII has a lot of expandable content that doesn't have to be story related.

They could extend gameplay simply by letting u go back to areas in Cocoon and so on. Sure it may not seem very canon but then again completing the game to unlock the final crystarium, then loading back right before the final boss isn't either.

It's also a real pity that 70% of the games environments get used like once. They are situational areas tho, towns especially, so its kinda hard to make them usable again but I'm sure they can figure something out.

I'd love to see them add a FMV replay gallery, music gallery, some more marks, optional but non-canon fights.. (who else actually wanted to fight the bitch Jihl?), more Fal'Cie fights (gogo Titan for the sake of it!) and possibly a new game plus option where you can start from any chapter with your current stats just for the sake of it. maybe an entire colosseum of sorts where you can fight a whole host of reused bosses, but them being much harder

...as for the idea of a sequel. it seems unlikely since they aren't l'cie anymore and don't have their powers.. and it'd kinda suck if they went around doing shit as humans..

However, the idea of a prequel would be pretty cool. Though it'd probably be a very contained story of Vanille and Fang from centuries ago.. and of a very different style since they're so backward in terms of technology.

Meh, Yuna wasn't a summoner anymore but they still managed to make a sequel. If they want to make one they'll find some plot device.
Besides weren't PSICOM soldiers able to cast magic as well through some kind of device?

DLC seems possible as well: the way the Cristarium and stats work in this game make both of them very expandable. Not to mention that Aeroga being the strongest attack spell and healing magic being incredibly lacking in variety both seem rather odd.

Just because they can make a sequel doesn't mean they should. You'd break more about what was loved in FFXIII but trying to extend the story in some shitty way.
