I would suggest you clear up the missions in and around Steppe before you move on. The enemies do beef up considerably but it's still doable as you are. But the missions are basically laid out to be done as you progress. 1-15 or so in and around Steppe, then you do them as you head through those tunnels. It's also nice to get the teleporters since running through that area repeatedly would just be a chore.

As for party, I think Haste tops everything at that point personally. I run with Light, Fang and Sazh and love it. He may not be capable of doing crazy damage like Hope or Vanille magic-wise but he more than makes up for it by beefing up my powerhouses.

I'm not a huge fan of fang. I only used her for Sentinal, but after I got Ruinga I havnt used her since. Sahz is great for haste and enspells.

I dunno I like my setup of Fang Sahz and Vanille for the Espionage Paradigm (SAB/SAB/SYN) it really melts mobs down but i levelled Fangs Ravager job so that she has 4 different magics so i can use the TriDisaster paradigm (RAVx3)

I think you're the first i heard that doesnt like Fang. Shes a powerhouse commando, plus has huge utility with her sab, with sen available if shit ever goes bad.

I, personally ran with Fang/Light/ & either Vanille or Sazh for most of chap 11 before switching to Light/Fang/Hope in chap 12, but there are a lot of party configs that work just fine from what Ive seen.

I'm trying to determine if I like axis blade or helter atm fighting the respawning behemoth+wolf at the end of archylte - might toss fang in for... I guess sazh and see how it goes. Gonna suck losing haste... although could always run Fang/Light/Sazh I suppose ha, and maybe make fang in charge since there will be some healing going on that I find boring.

well, I dont really use sentinal and I dont debuff too much unless it's a huge fight, so all that leaves her with is COM for me.
So far my usually play style is lightning/sazh/vanille. start off with com/syn/rav, get haste,(the other buffs for longer fights) then switch to com/rav/rav. when I need a cure, i'll switch vanille to med, then back to rav, if lots of damage real fast, I'll do med/com/med

Same, don't really like fang, at least until hope gets Haste. Cause I start most fights with Com/Sab/Syn and then go com/rav/rav or rav/rav/rav and just blow shit up.

You could do exactly the same with Fang. She's a great Sab and an amazing damage dealer. I use COM COM SYN for random battles, Fang can do every worthwhile debuff for tough mobs then swap to full DD by the time they're on and buffs are up.

I could, but atm vanillies a much better sab because of how her CP is spent. I wouldn't want to replace sazh until hope gets haste, and until i'm forced to use a sentinel I prefer then 1 com setup for random fights. Ravravrav is great for alot of things as well.

( I did it later)
Even with Death, I found this to be seriously hard to do early. I went back around the time I started Chapter 13, hoping to get the Growth Egg for my trek through the rest of the chapter, had every character's base jobs at Lv4 and capped, and it's still a bitch. The babies pop each character for nearly 1000-1200 a hit (even on Sentinel, Snow gets raped), not to mention the Neochu hits hard and Death's success rate is a nightmare. Not saying this isn't the best way (it is), but it's a pain to do early.

This disappointed me so much. How hard would a Movie Viewer have been?

2COMs annoy me when there's more than 1 enemy, which is the majority of the fights. I'll probably give them all another try once I unlock another level. theyre all capped at 4 right now, except for Snow who's only at about 2 lol. Ive never used Snow since I was forced to. idk how good he actually is, but I dont like him!

I swap in Snow on the mission marks that you need a full-time sen for since he can take more punishment and is much harder to kill (especially with Umbra/Solaris equipped) than Fang. Only times I ever use him though.

snow is categorically inferior to Fang, there's no real reason to use him unless you like him more than the bull dyke

Snow has more HP, and is a better sent, but thats his only highlight and really all there is to him. Fang doesn't pass Lightning on str until Mah'habara I think, but then she dominates.

I'd probably main fang if I didn't already get helterskelter to level 20 for lightning... although when hope learns haste it's probably going to be light/fang/hope... gonna miss vanillie and sazh for their buffing/debuffing though

Fang seems like a better debuffer than Vanille so far. Already has all the important spells at stage 8 on the Crystarium. Guess the downside is you have to lose her powerhouse capabilities whilst debuffing.

Vanillies stats make her a better sab, but somewhere during chapter 11 I think fang becomes pretty close to equal.

Are you sure Magic even makes a difference to debuffs? I hear lots of people saying yes and lots of people saying no. Ronfar posted in a different thread that he uses the polearm with 0 Magic on it on her and he has no problems debuffing too, so it's hard to say. At most I suppose it effects the damage they in conjunction with the debuff, but it is pitiful either way.

If your available Commandos have a good amount of Strength, COM/COM/RAV is a good way to swarm a staggered enemy (preferrably singular), as Physical resistances usually drop more than Magic during Stagger. Launch will keep them up and with two characters juggling there's pretty good chance you'll Smite them back down if they last that long. It's also good if both Commandos have Jeopardize. En-spells make it even better.

I wont lie, I jizzed in my pants when I bust out double 80k+ Smites yesterday. Sure that is not much of an accomplishment by the time your characters are maxed, but I'm still on chapter 11/stage 8 crystarium and not even maxed on that yet.
