Had some issue with the optical drive cause it had ate my XIII disc and before repair the PS3 I manually took off the disc so I had to reopen 5 times the entire optical unit and follow a guide on youtube to fix it. Now my PS3 seems working good, its more silent and the fan doesn't even start at full speed (like it was used to do after 10/15 mins of playing).

I'm so happy! Let's see how many months it last!

I'd assume you already made a back up since that's the most important thing to do w/ a malfunctioning sys?

Is it me or does this not sound like a good thing?

I'm typically used to seeing my PS3's fan rev up a couple minutes after either playing a game online, or playing a game that makes full use of the hardware. Just hope it's nothing to be concerned of and not a potential overheating issue in the waiting on your end given you just attempted to fix it. Least you can get your backup done with. Bit of a shame that it's not as plug-and-play friendly as 360's are with their harddrives.

Could be a number of things. Most likely is that the PS3 was dusty (mainly the fan intake) and when he took it apart I assume he dusted it out, and now the PS3 is getting more cool air it doesn't need to use the fan as much.
