I wonder about that. Those who commit suicide go to hell in Christian religions. Is killing yourself through a religious practice tantamount to suicide? If so, is she now in hell? Did she damn herself by zealously performing an act intended to bring her close to God?

If she was this radical (if I may say) in her fasting, I doubt she was intending to want to die. Weither intention or not for suicide or using suicide to save someone else is debatable and I had this conversation many times.

Jonathan Edwards (the guy who did the whole "we're a spider over a fire" or whatever imagery it was in that story back in high school) would say suicide would never be righteous even if for another because of some "selfish" thought.
If you were in the military and you told your friend's mother you'd protect her son and you did by saving him at the cost of your life, he would claim that you were concerned about disappointing/angering the mother if you didn't save the son or whatever second motive reason.

Although I don't agree with some of his ideology, his "Divine and Supernatural Light" was an interesting yet difficult read.

I am unable to even make a guess myself on this because there is some story missing that could tell if she was having issues at any time with her family, herself, etc that may lead to this. She would've had a lot of time to think about it while sitting outside for hours at a time.

Wouldn't this make jesus a sinner? He allowed himself to be killed for our sins, which is pretty suicidal. Then again, he had reraise on so maybe that negates the dieing for our sins part.
