FFXIII fastest selling FF game! SE considering sequel!?

Square Enix's first fully-fledged Final Fantasy offering for the PS3 and Xbox 360 finally launched outside of Japan to no small amount of hype, but it appears the fanfare was definitely worth it. According to publisher, Final Fantasy XIII races down corridors to achieve mastery as the fastest selling title yet in the long-running JRPG series.

The publisher previously confirmed it had shipped well over 5 million copies of the game across all launch territories, with over 3 million prepared for the North American and European launches alone. Sales meanwhile look to be coming together nicely, certainly in the United Kingdom. Chart-Track reports that FFXIII shot straight to the top of the region's software sales charts for the week ending March 13th; sales for the PS3 version of FFXIII comprised around 54 percent of the title's total sales thus far. It also snatches the title of fastest selling title in the UK thus far into 2010 from EA's Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which set the record just one week before.

FFXIII producer Yoshinori Kitase last week expressed strong interest in making a direct sequel for the game, with the hopes of further fleshing out the world now that the development team has more or less polished the various gameplay systems. Kitase noted it would all depend on the title's international reception. Judging from the look of things now, perhaps the chances have become a whole lot stronger.

I'm tired of people getting boners over the idea of a sequel when Kitase never really "expressed strong interest in working on a sequel."

Someone asked him about whether he wanted to do a sequel or not and all he said was along the lines of: 'the boring part is developing the system and the not boring part is developing the story that goes with it, and if we made a sequel, it wouldn't be boring since the framework of XIII is already built'

Sounds more like a DLC, than a sequel, in other words. Having said that, I wouldn't want to download 1-10gb worth of DLC, so I guess it could be a standalone game!

It would be a great travesty if they made a sequel of this and not 7, 8 or 9. As much as I liked FF13, I don't think I'll be looking back at it with the nostalgia I have for the other games 10 years down the line.

It is unlikely that they "cut" anything. They maybe initially planned to have that much then would have cut that shit short regardless or would have taken another 4 years developing it. Also could have just thrown in some more discs or taken out the oversized prerendered cutscenes to make up for lack of space just fine.

As games start getting larger this kinda thing will be more common to please the xbox crowd. Lost Planet 2, FF XIII and LA Noire are among the reported titles to have cuts made.

How is that any different then what Ms did with gta? A FF game is something I hope to God would be ps3 only tbh. I should of burned Ms down for gta crap and delayed mw2 maps(even tho I no longer play mw2)

If this was PS3 only dlc.I would be fine with it as should Xbox users for the crap we deal with Ms paying everyone not to get shit.
