    BG Nutrition HELP!

This is probably a dumb question but I don't know where else to ask.

I started a diet about two weeks ago, I really need to get back into shape. Anyway for breakfast I have been eating a bowl of oatmeal w/ raisins/cranberries. Problem is from the time I eat breakfast around 7:15AM till lunch time 12:00 I feel so damn tired. I am not hungry at all just tired/no energy.

After lunch and for the rest of the day I am fine. I used to have a bagel or toast in the morning with an egg and felt fine. What can I add to my breakfast as a pick me up. Would vitamins help?

I do the oatmeal thing with a big glass of tea (with splenda.) I usually have green tea or oolong (how I fell in love with oolong~)

Edit: Yeah, I take my multivitamin in the morning, but I don't really think it affects anything. (I think the B-vitamin thing is a fad, but whatever it takes to get people to take their multivitamin )

B-vitamins will give you energy, the tea is a great suggestion, green tea or black tea unsweetened or lightly sweetened with honey are very good for you ( I personally avoid fake sweeteners like the plague but that is my personal taste). Also you can do egg whites and that is ok too. Feed the yokes to the dog or whatever.

Workout if you have time. Will do more than any diet can in an equivalent amount of time.

I feel like oatmeal weighs me down too much in the morning and makes me groggy, but I've never been a big morning eater. The easiest way I've found to get my calories in the AM is to drink them-- make a shake, with fruit/milk/whey/etc, usually I just put the oatmeal in there too and drink it raw lol.

Healthy protein. I like peanut butter but NOT the kind with hydrogenated oils. Get the natural stuff:

Gotta mix it up before you eat it but you're working against yourself if you buy the kind with hydrogenated oils. Stuff stays with you a long time so I like having it in the morning before long classes or w/e.

I buy the natural peanut butter and pour of half of the oil on top. Makes a small difference, makes it a teeny bit better for you and it is easier to mix.

rule of thumb is that your peanut butter should have 3 or fewer ingredients

One yoke won't kill him and has good cholesterol and omega acids. Outside of the protein most of the nutrition isn't in the egg white. Also to the poster who said B-vitamins are a fad, I agreed until I tried a multivitamin with like 200-500%DV of each vitamin unknowingly. I felt like I was on cocaine for the next half of the day.

Yeah I am not saying yolks are bad. I am just saying that you can eat just the whites if you are really worried about eating too much.

sorry Correction didn't even notice that.

theres only like 80 calories in a whole extra large egg, as long as you're not having more than 1-2 yolks per day you're probably fine.

If the OP is going from bagel/eggs to oatmeal/cranberries and feeling groggy it's probably a combination of factors: the fact that oatmeal is so filling, and the fact that your new breakfast has no protein whatsoever.

Peanut butter or egg whites is a good suggestion, oatmeal is pretty safe as carbs go but protein and healthy fats will keep you fuller without feeling like there's a brick in your stomach.

Personally I'd cut the amount of oatmeal in half, throw in some almonds or natural PB, or some scrambled eggs (1 yolk 2-3 whites) with a little salsa (also a low calorie food)

Yeah a combination of 1 egg yolk with 2-3 whites is a great idea, gives you the benefits of the yolk without overloading you and it gives you the extra protein of the whites.

    egg FUCKING whites

they're the greatest. you can make omelets with him everyday if you wanted, and it'd STILL be good for you as long as you're adding shit like spinach and tomatoes and no cheese to it.

    They're cheap

they last a long ass time in your fridge

    they're quick to make

    they taste great

but oatmeal is for champs too. i hated it at 1st, but its not too bad now

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will try the green tea with the oatmeal and see how that works. Never thought about adding peanut butter into my oatmeal. Lots of things to try out now. I drink my tea and coffee with no milk or sugar anyways.

Adding in the B Vitamin can't hurt and I probably should be taking something.

The shake was something I always thought about but seems like a pain in the morning, gotta be out of the house by 6:15AM.

    Thanks again everyone, appreciated.
