    From CNN.com yesterday:

Making the most of short workouts (aka stop fucking making excuses that you don't have time). I can actually speak from personal experience using the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, those workouts are HARD and don't last long but you will definitely see effects in one month if you are also eating well along with the workout.

It's not really a fight when people won't back up an argument they make with evidence and instead switch to name-calling.

I can appreciate the value of divergent viewpoints, especially on the merits of whatever the topic is that is being discussed.

Shit is situational, and a lot of the "non-calorie based" approach recommendations end up doing the same thing:

    Because if you:
Cut out sugar + Go Whole grain/brown over white (bread/rice/pasta) + Reduce bad fats + Increase leafy greens/vegs + go Natural/Organic> processed, etc... you'll find that all the healthy alternatives typically have less calories, or higher fibre content which is less calories your body can use.

Eating smaller/frequent meals also helps some ppl avoid those unplanned snacks that can really add up. Carving up the meals/calories doesn't always result in weight loss per se. Different things work for different people based on age, gender, other habits, etc. Very little is irrefutable and fits everyone, except maybe: Eat less move more. The details are where the arguments lie.

    That's a reasonable and well-said post.

The basic gist though, is the frequency of when you eat doesn't matter if you eat more than your body will use. Any excess calories lead to weight gain, whether you are eating six meals a day or three meals a day, and while it's true that your metabolism is most active early in the day (i.e. morning), when and how often you eat is not as important as how much.

Calories you overeat at 9 a.m. have the same end result as calories you overeat at 11 p.m. You'll gain weight.

On the lighter side, it's not so bad to be fat. Fat people shouldn't be ostracized. Look at the bright side, instead of considering them to be fat, consider them to have incredible stores of energy on reserve.

All that extra energy though doesn't mean much if you're not conditioned in what you're doing. For example a fat guy w/ "a lot of energy" isn't going to outbike an in shape cyclist. And when the fat guy conditions in such a sport, more likely for him to lose weight in the process.

Stay away from diets, you're depriving your body of the nutrients it needs to function properly/survive. Instead, eat healthy and exercise.

Yes, Aerides is correct in his/her informative post that should bring this matter to a close, but let me go ahead and post my opinion anyway, which is basically the same thing I said 1 page ago!

I mean you're not even wrong in what you're saying, but god damn

I started a diet about two weeks ago, I really need to get back into shape. Anyway for breakfast I have been eating a bowl of oatmeal w/ raisins/cranberries. Problem is from the time I eat breakfast around 7:15AM till lunch time 12:00 I feel so damn tired. I am not hungry at all just tired/no energy.

After lunch and for the rest of the day I am fine. I used to have a bagel or toast in the morning with an egg and felt fine. What can I add to my breakfast as a pick me up. Would vitamins help?
Is this a problem that occured before your change in diet? or immediately after it?

If it continues for awhile you may want to see a doctor, because you could have:

    Diabetes.
B malabsorption(often related to having acid reflux, ulcers, other things).
    Anemia.
Related to Apnea, especially if you're more than 20lbs overweight.
    Depression(lol)
etc, there's a lot of conditions that cause that feeling you're describing.

It's worth talking to your doctor about if it continues or has been going on for an extended amount of time, feeling tired after being awake only a small amount of time is never normal, and a LOT of people have undiagnosed conditions related to chronic fatigue.

If it goes away with a change of diet ignore above ^

if you just want to try and wake up a little faster (/easier), try stretching. It's really really really easy to stretch once you know the basic dynamics of stretching (slowly start with one position and stretch slowly, the stretch should always be comfortable), and it honestly works.

You need to do it anyways before you work out to avoid fuckin up your body, but there are a lot of times that I just plain feel crappy or have something on my mind and stretching really goes a long way for it. try it out doggy

Eating smaller more frequent meals was never touted as a tool to loose weight from what I have seen. It has always been more about digestive system health than anything else. It is better for your stomach and intestines and the rest of your body in general. It also allows your body to utilize the food you eat more efficiently.

Again just based on the news stories, studies, and information from my mom who studied nutrition in college.

(given that is my personal experience I would not be surprised at all if it was said to help you lose weight at some point.)

Yea this just started after I changed my eating habits, so it has been only going on for 10-12 days. Last time I was at the doctor all was well so I will give it a little time and cut down on the oatmeal and add in some of the suggestions given.

Stretching in the morning to get my body going sounds like a good idea, never though about that.

    Thanks!

Do not listen to this re-tard, keeps saying wrong shit again and again. There's a difference between nutrient-dense calories and empty calories and how your body utilizes and metabolizes them.

Foods with a high water content or nutrient density tend to make you feel fuller for longer and contain important nutrients that help your body regulate weight, among many other things.

The worst thing you can do is take bad advice about purely limiting calories and just pay attention to what foods you are eating and how often. If you are lacking energy by mid-morning then you should eat a healthy snack of nutrient dense foods; fruit, vegetables, nuts, oats etc.

It moranic advice like Talus' that people continue to stay fat because they think if they simply limit calories but pretty much continue the same bad diet behaviors they're in the right because "it's all just a numbers game."

Best advice, don't listen to anyone on an internet forum. Do research for yourself, read, read, read. When I first started training I didn't know shit about training/nutrition. 80% nutrition when you're trying to get in shape. I don't know what you're trying to do but if it has anything to do with lifting weights, pick up some MD magazine's, they carry a lot of info and aren't full of bullshitter's like flex and the other bandwagon magazines.

Where do you get your information? Do you lay in bed at night and think this shit up? The point to eating more small meals throughout the day/night is to keep your metabolism going strong, which means you'll burn more fat. When you go a long period between meals, your metabolism slows down. When your metabolism slows down that means you don't burn as much fat. Since you seem like you have a slight retardation problem I'm guessing you won't understand this and come back with some other crazy off the wall thunk up bullshit.

On a very basic level it is just as simple as calories in vs. calories out, and the number of calories you eat in a day is one of the most important factors in a diet, but to say meal size and meal timing aren't important is beyond retarded.

Also people seem to think they can completely eliminate carbs/fat from their diet and lose weight that way, which can actually be pretty dangerous. Your body needs fats and carbs to survive and function normally.

As a general rule I usually just make sure I'm getting enough protein, then fill out the remaining calories with a nice mix of brown carbs and healthy fats, then spread everything out over the course of a day.

In case anyone was interested this is my current cutting diet, ~2k calories a day:
    Spoiler: show

    Breakfast:
1 yolk 3 whites with a little salsa
Shake: 1 cup skim, 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 scoop chocolate whey

    Lunch:
    4 oz chicken
    1 cup raw vegetables

    Post workout snack:
1 scoop whey with 1 cup skim milk
1 tbsp peanut butter with celery
    1-2 clementines or 2 prunes

    Dinner:
    4 oz chicken
    1 cup steamed vegetables
    4 oz sweet potato

    Dessert/snack:
    1 apple
1 scoop casein with 1 cup skim milk

    Supps:
    Multi-v, Fish oil

Total calories is like 2050 or something like that. 3 scoops of protein is a little high but eh, ON's casein/whey has a really nice protein/calorie ratio.

My only advice about diets is just make sure you switch it up often so it doesn't get old. I ate chicken breasts everyday for two years straight. I fucking hate looking at any kind of chicken anymore. I put it in my mouth and try to swallow it asap anymore.

    damn thats pretty solid, Atreides

and i like it because, even fixed income people can afford a diet plan like that

im not eating as many cals as i should (about 1200-1500/day mostly fiber and proteins), but im building muscle off a bigger body i had since i lost about 100 lbs so far lol, so i guess thats why i been able to get away with it. as soon as i get to my ideal weight (230 or so) i'll start up with 2k cals a day just like that to maintain my muscle and feed it constantly

one thing i like to do when i wake up, is pushups and the hamstring stretches. that shit makes you not hungry and ready for your day. i dont drink coffee at all, so this helps me a lot, but i doubt its doing anything extra beneficial by pumping out 40 or so pushups in the morning, and finishing the day off with 100/day spread out from 2-3 sets. (i do 1 on my break at work, and 1 more when i get home from work lol)
